Strange enough to be in the situation...
SUV Nearly Slams Into Elephant

But; it was this quote...
Quote:
"Didn't have time to hit the brakes. The elephant blended in with the road," driver Bill Carpenter said Thursday. "At the very last second I said 'elephant!'"
Made me wonder if its toenails were painted red.

I liked this quote:
Quote:
Enid veterinarian Dr. Dwight Olson said the elephant was hiding in some bushes just off the highway when he arrived shortly after the accident.
I can't help but picture a giant elephant crouched down in a bush, but still hulking over it. "Hiding".

With his eyes closed. "You can't see me, you can't see me!"

That is too Looney Toons-like for reality.

Yeah; I was trying to tie that in with the "elephant hiding in the cherry tree" joke.

His name, I believe, was Horton.

It looks like palm reading is passe.
Now we have...
Reading toes can tell you about your past, future (video)
Quote:
Toe readers are attracting more attention, with believers claiming the shape of your toes and the bumps on them can say a lot about your past and your destiny.
I like the part where they say that corns are a sign of stress, and the lady says "I always thought corns meant your shoes were too tight".

It seems quite likely, if the elephant encountered Bugs Bunny earlier.

A headline on New Scientist, no less:

"Mars rover battles for its life"

A story that many of us follow. I'll feel sorry like everybody else when Spirit (and Opportunity) stop functioning. But sorry, Spirit is not alive. And it's not battling anything, it's just following instructions programmed into it.

Here's one that doesn't surprise me.
Poll finds dinnertime tradition lives even in digital age
Until you can eat dinner on-line, I don't see any change in this, other than the increasing distractions which they already say is happening.

But; it was the zinger at the end that I liked.
Quote:
And about half say they're pestered by phone calls -- including from the occasional pollsters like those who did this survey.

So essentially, they all still sit at the table, they just ignore each other. If there are all sorts of new distractions, would that no longer make it the classic "dinnertime tradition?"

Does that constitute irony?

Fed: Banks Need Customer Consent On Overdraft Fees

Quote:
Under the Fed's new rule, which will take effect July 1, banks will be required to notify new and existing customers of their overdraft services and give customers the option of being covered. If customers don't "opt in," any debit or ATM transactions that overdraw their accounts will be denied, Fed officials said.
Alright the title is a bit misleading. Wouldn't that be nice, though?
Bank: Good afternoon Mrs. X, your account is overdrawn and we would like your permission to charge you overdraft fees.
Mrs. X: Um no thank you, maybe next time.

I've always like this bit of legalese:
Quote:
In the Nuts (underground) (other than ground nuts) Order, the expression nuts shall have reference to such nuts, other than ground nuts, as would but for this amending Order not qualify as nuts (underground) (other than ground nuts) by reason of their being nuts (underground).

Is that about "May contain nuts" including peanuts as a possible ingredient?
