Hubby and I went to 'Zola' in Chinatown for dinner with some friends of ours. Fortunately, we went home before the fireworks were supposed to start. I say 'fortunately' because the Mall had to be evacuated prior to start due to rain and thunderstorm warnings.

After getting home, we both enjoyed a nice bout of food poisoning , which persisted into the next day. After getting NO sleep, we both had to go to work on the 5th.

How awful. Hope you're both feeling better now.

This area is big on neighborhood fireworks -- usually beginning 2 weeks prior to the 4th. This year (not complaining) there were few neighborhood fireworks. Apparently I'm not the only one who just wasn't "into" the holiday this year.

We took a long evening walk. Enjoyed watching a huge thunderstorm rolling in from the north with cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-ground yellow lightning bolts. City fireworks were canceled due to winds/smattering of rain. Many people totally miffed (had spent hours waiting). I turned in early, so hadn't planned to see the display anyway.

City had fireworks display last evening. Beautiful.

But it's always TOO HOT to enjoy the 4th here. And surrounded by desert wilderness (5 types of rattlesnakes, scorpions, tarantulas)...let's just say I miss a 4th of July picnic on green grass by a Midwestern lake. Might be more humid, but it's also cooler and no rattlers.

Hope you're feeling better, Paracelsus.

Here, we went to a friend's for a cookout, fireworks, and many trips to the bathroom. Seems the current gov's standards for food quality are being determined by the food companies.

But no Al Bundying the terlet.

Hung around the house, got through GTA San Andreas' "Flight School" missions (which involved several hours of much cursing, the watching of torture scenes from Hostel while imagining the Rockstar devs in those situations, and finally just staying on it until I made that frelling helicopter move like I wanted.), then going in to work for an hour.

Chinese food on the 4th? I guess they were about the only place open. Sorry you got sick Paracelus.

The fireworks here weren't the best I'd seen, but we were lucky to see any at all. Of course cleaning after the party wasn't fun (actually I'm not quite done yet - lots of beer spills to mop and beer bottles to return)

There was one visible sunspot, so spent the day at a local street fair letting people look at the sun through a small telescope fitted with a solar filter.

I did what I normally do when I don't have to work; Nothing! And it was great.

We did go to my parents for lunch/dinner (lunner? or dinch?). And watched an animated movie "Everyone's Hero". Other than that, we didn't do anything of note.

Ok

I got up in the morning, went to my day job at a lighting factory, did my time there, came home, had dinner (chicken schnitzel, yum), went out to my other work, basketball umpiring, did two games of basketball, came home, and logged onto BAUT.

I then browsed here for a while, and afterwards went to bed

way to represent

oh, and that reminds me of a bad riddle.

Do they have the 4th of July in other countries? Sure they do - every country (that uses our calendar) has a 4th of July.

Not much on the actual 4th. Did a little shopping, and visited with some friends and their new baby.

I did my celebrating the night before, my birthday, through dinner with my fiance and the local fireworks afterward. I also got to visit my family in Maryland last weekend, and see their local fireworks show!

Here in my country , 4th of July is our Fil-Am Friendship Day. We have a little celebration , a parade and fireworks at the park.

And of course greeted my American friends and my baby.

Normal day for me, except disbelief at seeing "July 4th" stuff, stars & stripes, etc.. all over the canteen at work - complete with an "American menu".

I nearly asked if they knew who America was celebrating their independence from! Hopefully, I'll have my own independence day to celebrate some day.

I whipped up a respectable batch of nitrogen triiodide, and left it out to dry. It was promptly rained on, ruining everything. Cue the "Somehow, I don't think you thought your cunning plan all the way through" remarks

#EDIT: To those concerned about safety, here, I would like to add that the mixture was made "In place" and in small amounts, in an area with little to no foot traffic, and was cordoned off by tape.

great reminder. I'm only a few hours from one stretch. I think I'll head over one of the weekends coming up.

'Zola' doesn't serve Chinese food; it serves contemporary American food--very expensive food at that. It tasted good going down at any rate.

A car crashed through one of my friend's fence. I spent most of the day trying to get him to come out of hiding. He was convinced it was the Transformers coming to kill him.

I spent the day at a block party feeling sorry for Canada, Austraila and New Zealand because they have suffered under English Tyranny.

I filled out the paperwork to have my name changed from "Four Finger Charlie" to "Three Finger Charlie". To save time, I pick up the forms every July 3.

Well, not really. I did nothing.

The only people here who suffered from English Tyrrany were the aboriginies, the rest of us did just fine out of "English Tyranny"

The English are a simple lot, they discovered paradise (well it is paradise here compared to English weather) so instead of moving there themselves they sent all of their prisoners there, smart move

Thanks for the laugh

I had to work the 4th.

Probably a good thing, since it's been raining every day and night here for the last two weeks. Artillery rounds don't work very well during a thunderstorm.

In other news, my grass is getting real high, so I have put together a crafty plan using my boat, my riding mower, and a life jacket. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Me, too, more or less. Except I didn't log onto BAUT on Wednesday.

At work, "my" project is in the large-scale lab at the moment, so that means extra hard work.

I just noticed you say you're from the big thicket. We use that to describe East Texas sometimes - or the forested area around there.

By chance is that what you mean?
