Default I need the forebearence of the mods and fellow bauters

earlier this evening I had what was for me a relatively mild set of grand mal seizures. Not so bad as to have gone dislexic and cyanotic like last months but I'm seen to have been posting a little wildly and off topiclly alll over the boards tonight. Nothing wildly bannable I assure you just off topic stuff all over the placeI still feel yucky and concussiony and I think some more may happen before long. I mean in the next 20 minutes or so. Times like this I wish I had a valium. Those can turn these off like a switch sometimes.

Don, I hope you'll be feeling okay shortly. I'll be thinking about you for the next bit.

This was educational. I had no idea that there was a type of "grand mal" seizure that could still allow one to type language at all.

It depends on what part of the brain is involved in the seizure activity. Temporal lobe epilepsy may be associated with some of the symptoms he is describing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temporal_lobe_epilepsy):

Quote:
Complex Partial Seizures (CPS) by definition are seizures which impair consciousness to some extent. This is to say that they alter the person's ability to interact with others. They usually begin with an SPS, but then the seizure spreads to a large portion of the temporal lobe and impairs consciousness. Signs may include motionless staring, automatic movements of the hands or mouth, inability to respond to others, unusual speech, or unusual behaviors (my bold). Because judgement is impaired, persons experiencing CPS may not legally drive vehicles for periods of time which are set by local governments worldwide.

So a good news/bad news day for the Don family. Hope you're doing better soon.

Paracelsus, right on the money! I squished my left temporal lobe back in my Navy days, (late 70's/early 80's). You should have heard some of the remedies proposed by the VA docs over the years.

I think I might stop posting for a while again too, though. I can't be posting all over Plait's Creation all addled and willy-nilly.

How did you damage your temporal lobe?

Are you on Topamax? There is an article about vagal nerve stimulation for use with medication-resistant epilepsy (http://www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/e..._any_treatment).

I enjoy your posts, actually. I liked the one you made on the Cepheid variable thread on the Astronomy Forum.
