I suspect that may be an effect of the new software that makes more readable URLs.

From the Currently Active Users, the ! ! ! link is to
PHP Code:
http://www.bautforum.com/members/.html
From the members list, several of the exclamation-mark names link to:
PHP Code:
http://www.bautforum.com/members/-.html
which yields member §åìñ†.

That seems very wrong.

I think I'll post this finding to About BAUT. Done, here.

My guess is that it's a spammer for whatever the link in the sig is who has his is message held pending review then doesn't quite understand why it never shows up in the forums. He's been around for a month or so.

I have noticed that too.

If he / she is spamming, I have not seen any posts / spammings with that ID.

Strange.

Gillianren as a superhero and a secret identity?

Anyway, I not only see "! ! !" in the list, but "! ! ! ! !" and "! ! !!" as well. It must be the "tremendous trio" wiping out bad punctuation across the world. Along with thier trusting contact "# #", they can white-out bad writing in an instance.

No secret identity around here. That, she said self-righteously, would be sock-puppetry!

My guess is that it is some sort of under-the-covers BAUT monitor function.

Sounds like a CT to me!

That, and I'd be shocked to see you use multiple exclamation marks.

Shouldn't the software prohibit stupid usernames?

Here's another guess: The !!! logon ID is the "receiving" function whan anyone reports a post to the moderators. This ID can then be accessed by any moderator or the "offending post" notification is sent to all mods.

And the silence of the management about it only emphasizes this notion.

And what kind of rules should it use? who determines this?

Should it prevent usernames starting with numbers? Or certain words that sound silly like "geek"? Where do you draw the line?

How about names consisting entirely of punctuation?
