Smile Greetings from Maine

Hi all,
I'm new to the forums. I'm a physician practicing in central Maine. I'm 45. We still have dark skies here.

I spent some time in Fraser's neck of the woods having been a police constable in Vancouver. That was a very long time ago.

Welcome aboard. It will be nice having a practicing physician around, some of our topics could have used professional input

Howdy!

Where in the central part of The State of Maine? Central always makes me think of Dover-Foxcroft. I spent a lot of time in Bridgton, North Windham, and Weld during the 50s and 60s. Sugarloaf is my favorite lift-serviced place to ski in the East.

Doctor eh? Where'd you go to school? I have this pain in my left shoulder. Do you do remote viewing?

Meanwhile, welcome to the BAUT, Superius!

Read the FAQs, especially the rules, and have fun.

Is it true all the people from Calais are callous?

So I guess it's common for Mainer's to pronounce the town named "Calais" as "callous?" It kind of threw me the first time I heard it said by someone from Maine.

Is it a sort of "We don't speak French here" statement?

That is how it is said, do not know the reason probably just starting to get mispronounced and stayed that way.

That seems pretty common in the US. For example the town of Milan, Ohio is pronounced My-Lan. They looked at me funny when I said it as they would in Italy.

The river that runs between Maine in New Brunswick is the St Croix, the x is not pronounced in french or by anybody here.
