Default There goes MY morning commute

Via Yahoo! News: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070828/...IokVJCXK2s0NUE

Quote:
Small fires broke out for a second straight night along the capital region's Metrorail system, crippling commuter train service and leaving investigators trying to pinpoint the cause Tuesday...Officials blamed electrical problems for a fire on the tracks at the Pentagon City station in Arlington, Va., that halted service there and at four nearby stations, including Reagan National Airport's busy station, from 7:30 p.m. until the system's normal midnight closing. Power problems also were blamed for another small fire at the U Street-Cardozo station in Washington, which was closed for about an hour, along with neighboring Columbia Heights station.
That first group of incidents is on the Blue and/or Yellow lines. The second group is on the Green line--one of the lines I have to take to get to and from work. I worked from home yesterday, luckily for me, but I'm at the office today.

I hope these fires don't become a regular occurrence.

This brings to mind the 'exploding man-hole covers' episodes we had in Baltimore in either 2000 or 2001, can't remember.

Hope they fix it. I used to take the Metro on a regular basis from Reagan (was Washington National) to Rockville when I was dealing with the NRC.

Is the distance bikeable?

How's the ankle?

If she takes the Green line to DC, the distance is theoretically bikable, but even being a gruff lookin' guy like I am, I wouldn't do it myself. Biking down the B/W Parkway to New York Avenue/Rte 50 would be fine, but then, its not allowed. The only other closely parallel route I know is Rhode Island Avenue, and it goes through some not-so-nice places.

Bikeable isn't doable at the moment, as it is summertime and I'd have to carry a change of clothes with me.

The ankle sucks--it is still swollen and has turned many, many colors, and it hurts to walk on it. Riding metro this morning was not fun.

Edited to add: I'd be biking from Arlington, VA (Clarendon neighborhood) to College Park, MD and back.

I used to live in NOVA. Yeah, that wouldn't fly too well...
