Well, as a life-long Buckeye's fan, I'll be cheering for Oklahoma on Saturday. My g/f thinks I'm nuts, though, as last week I was whole-heartedly rooting against Oklahoma. She doesn't seem to realize that you have Ohio State, and everyone else are just pawns in Ohio States bid for another shot at the Championship.

How about the college football coaching carousel the last few days? Trying to keep track of what happened to whom is enough to drive you Nutts.

Gotta admit a season like this is way more fun. Like a TV series where they suddenly start killing off regular characters.

In a related note, the Rice University Marching Owl Band (the MOB, as it prefers to be known) is in trouble - again - for a halftime show.

Rice played Tulsa last Saturday. The Tulsa coach was the Rice coach until he left mid-contract for "greener" pastures. The MOB decided to parody this by doing a halftime routine where they went looking for the "missing" coach through the nine circles of hell (a la Dante') and finally found him in the lowest circle, behind a door marked "Welcome to Tulsa."

Tulsa took offense and filed a complaint.

Tulsans have no sense of humour.

Havn't got a clue about american football, ice hockey, or baseball, but I would like to say

England got knocked out the euro2008 - something I feel was typically english of us!
Hope you do better in yours than we've done in ours - again!

Nice win over them Ducks!

Meanwhile, let's see.

#1 Mizzou is blown out as usual by #9 Oklahoma.

#2 West Virginia loses to a determined Pitt squad.

#6 VT whups #11 BC.

#7 LSU edges #14 Tennessee.

#8 USC runs over UCLA.

#13 Sun Devils get by Arizona.

#3 Ohio State, #4 Georgia, #5 Kansas watched TV.

Undefeated #12 Hawai'i is behind those other Huskies 14-0.

Why Florida is #10 I don't know.

As ESPN put it so succinctly, "Another Fine Mess".

Could this finally be the end of that Rube Goldberg contraption known as the BCS?

Well obviously the Rice MOB halftime show upset Tulsa more than I thought and they were still in a state of disrepair and consternation when they played UCF. They just couldn't concentrate on the game.

Yeah, sure, that's the ticket. It's the MOB's fault.

Well, I could go into great detail about what's messed up with the whole BCS quagmire. But why do so when my thoughts have already been succinctly expressed?

Was the Rice MOB playing banned music?

Go Hokies!

Makes me sick to realize that we were one fumbled on-side kick recovery away from the national championship. *sigh*

Worse, I could not watch the ACC championship game as I am stuck in Hyderabad, India. Ten channels of Cricket, but no American football. Yahoo Sports was supposed to carry the radio broadcast, but blocked it in the India market (and won't refund me the money I paid, grrr). I even tried TVUPlayer, but could only get CBS (At least the Army-Navy game gave me some updates on the Tech game).

Cricket is growing on me though; they are even more obsessed with it here than everone back home is about Football.

As anyone who's been following this thread knows, I'm a Buckeye. As arguably broken and irrelevant as the system is, you won't find me complaining

You rock, Fazor. Good sports are hard to find (and sometimes hard to get along with).

Why, thank you. Also doomed to life as a Cleveland (Indians and Browns) fan, being a good sport is the only way we can live. That, or be like those perpetually depressed Cubs fans... ick!

I understand. For good or bad, I'm a Navy fan. The last six years have been kind to the team. Such wasn't always the case. I distinctly remember with great pain one game in partiuclar where Navy managed to snatch defeat from the very jaws of victory with mere seconds left to play. That was enough to cause a person to throw things, then cry.

What do you mean depressed? Don't I look happy?

It would seem the best team would easily be in the top eight of the polls at the end of the regular season. Seed them 1 thru 8, take three weekends to play them down to 1. Label them bowl games to make the advertisers, networks, and hosting community leaders who like to pretend that it is about something other than money happy.

I agree, but I say take the top twelve. #1-4 get a bye the first round, then play the 4 winners from round one. That would give us four solid weeks of football, and leave us with a clear winner.

How often do you hear people complain that the top-12 teams aren't the best 12 (aside from this wacky year, maybe). Plus, as a football fan who spends december-january largely depressed by the lack of games, I would love to have another solid week of football action.

Rose Bowl!

Being from Illinois, the University that gained the most from OSU's promotion to the championship game I'd have to thank you Fazor (as if any fan has anything to do with the team's performance). Of course, now I get to listen to a month's worth of hate from the national media about how "unworthy" the Illini are to play USC and how they got crushed in 84, as if any of the current players were even born then. It's as if many of them are trapped in the "Illinois and the Big 10 stink and Zook can't coach" meme and can't live up to the fact that they've already been proven wrong regardless of the Rose Bowl's result. I'm tempted to write one of the more vitrolic (Forde at ESPN) and dare him to take the Dick Vitale challenge and, if Illinois wins, agree to stand on his head at mid-field at halftime of our first home game next year while 70k fans sing the Illinois Alma Mater. Think he'd take it?

In the meantime, I'm pulling for every Big 10 team to win (even Michigan while I hold my nose) and every SEC team to lose. The rest can do as they please.

Yeah, it took me a while to realize that it wasn't just that they show cricket all day, but that it was the same bloody game. And I thought Football games were too long these days (of course, that is the TV timeouts' fault)

Oh, no problem. I'll gladly take credit for OSU's making the BCS championship game. Sure, the players and 'ol Jim played a part, but they wouldn't have done it without me (Sorry to the rest of you OSU fan's here, if I could give you some credit too I would, but alas, I'll haveta keep it all for myself).

Of course, if we manage to lose to LSU, then it had nothing to do with me. But a win? Then yeah, that was mine too.

Edit: After that frustrating (to me) Illinois loss, the Rose Bowl seemed like a bitter consolation to the Champoinship game. But, one man's trash is another man's treasure, I suppose.... ...sorry, couldn't help myself. And yeah, GO BIG-TEN! All 8 teams, sorry to the three that didn't get bowl games. Wait, 8 + 3 = 11... so we can play football but not do math. Oh well.
