If we make it out of pure Iron and assume it to be a sphere 10 km in diameter I get 4,120,000,000,000,000 kg.

Well, this site did. I got about 523 for the cubic volume of the asteroid.

Question Slow melt perhaps

This article just in shows arctic circle down in size from previous record low of 4 million sq kilometres down to 3 million sq kilometres a record drop.

Normal loss has been in the order of 100,000 sq kilometres per year and for the first known time the Canadian northwest passage is now fully open.

No an astroid moving at 99C and is 4.12*10^15 kg would only produce 8.5*10^24 J.

It wounldn't break the gravity strength, but the damage would be huge.

There are no Martians on an inteligence level comprable to the one you suggest. I do care, but if we are talking about the sun expanding and swallowing Earth, that will not happen for many, many years, so by that time you will have long been starfarers, and I will have long passed on, hopefully back on Vega.
If I didn't like Earth, I would have asked for a reassingment by now.

You have a reference? My assumption is the arctic ice and not the arctic circle.

For the arctic circle to shrink, the antarctic circle would also shrink, the tropic circles would grow, and the earth would have had a problematic shift in axis.

Yes you are right it is the arctic ice disappearing not the arctic circle, my mistake sorry. To anyone upset by my mistake NEOWatcher is absolutely correct no change in the size of the arctic circle ( relief).

This article here suggests that at the increased rate of melting the arctic ice may be gone by the year 2030.

Not a planet, my family has operated our radio array in the debris cloud surounding Vega for so long that I call myself Vegan. But my species is actually from another system entirely.

I was wondering about that. Considering that Vega has a time on the main sequence less than a billion years, and given that it's less than half that age, I'd be astonished if a planet with a complex biosphere developed, so that would likely mean either an environmentally modified planet or artificial structures.

The structure where I was born was artificial, as is the entire community around the radio array. We only discovered your planet last year through communications. It is actually quite amusing what broadcast we recieved first from you, as it is one very well known to BAUTers.

I eat local foods when stationed as an observer on exotic planets. Yes, I eat meat.
You have still not explained what an invisible elf is. I have found several references to it on this forum and I think the Council would be interested in it.
Is it similar to the "invisible, intangible dragon"?

An invisible elf is a mythical creature that is short with pointy ears and is not able to be seen. I finally answered your question even that you probably already knew.

Gramatically, yes, but I thought it was a metaphor.
Earth, what a planet! You park in the driveway and drive on the parkway!

The invisible elf is part of an argument. Very often, we have folks in the ATM or CT forums argue for one thing or another, then say "you can't prove me wrong!" This is my response to that: If I say there is an invisible elf in my yard, how would you prove me wrong? (And, for the purposes of the argument, you can assume that the elf can't be detected or affected by objective means.)

Anyway, the point is that it isn't up to others to prove someone wrong, one needs to provide evidence for one's argument.

'See...' from all this I can still not find a dilemma. I have often been caught by the horns of one but still have know idea what it might look like. My children for years believed the road sign ' Beware falling debris' was reference to some sort of clumsy goat that kicked rocks down cliffs... I of course have know idea who told them that.... thanks for entertaining me.

and,
' Quote;...Earth, what a planet! You park in the driveway and drive on the parkway! end quote'

we could make a list of these... there are an awful lot of them just waiting to catch me.

For the umpteenth time, the "park" in "parkway" is like Central Park, not like parking lot. A parkway is supposed to have trees and things along it, making it decorative. And you do drive on a driveway, just not very far. And the original driveways were much, much longer.

As opposed to driving on the sidewalk... which is in the front of the house.

Hmm. My house actually has a sidewalk along the side of the house and not one in the front...

How much much longer were they? And why?

Also, what kinds of "things" in addition to the trees?

Varied from estate to estate, really. But the Common Person (TM) didn't have a driveway. The aristocracy did. Think of the entrances to places where you can't see the house from the gate. Those were the first driveways.
