From the pages of who cares... or maybe... I know someone like that...

15-Year-Old Girl Sends 15,000 Texts A Month

Talent? I think I would use some other words.

I guess the question is if anybody actually reads her texts.

Here's an informative story...

Man counted calories, watched the pounds go

Quote:
He researched how to lose weight extensively on the Internet, including CNN.com's health section. He learned that 3,500 calories add up to one pound of weight and tried to figure out how to eat to decrease his daily caloric intake.
...
"As long as you know how many calories you need and how many calories you eat, it's just math," he said.
...
Bhattacharya emphasizes that anyone can shed unwanted pounds as long as he or she compares the number of calories needed to maintain weight and the number of calories he or she eats.
Ok; if this is a story of inspiration, then tell me the inspirations and overcoming the issues involved with dieting.
Otherwise, tell me why this is news? What's new here? Evidence that it's possible?

Breaking news in other top stories on MSNBC.

Australian pizza delivery caught speeding.

Quote:
Police clocked him driving at 82 miles in an 50 mph zone on Saturday, but waited for him to deliver his pizza before booking him.
Is this a story only because of the obvious opening pun?

Gee; If I only had a dollar for every Pizza delivery person I saw speeding down my street, I'd be pretty rich.

It's hard to tell if this is the result of slow news, or if the business section is just reaching that far for a good news story.

Toilet-paper researchers create 3-ply tissue

Quote:
The company touts the toilet tissue as "ultra-soft" and says it plans to market the product to women 45 and older who view their bathroom as a "sanctuary for quality time."

And then there's the sad stories resulting from Hurricance Ike.

A little water, a little cold, a little time. It's not all that big a deal. Rinks remove and put in their ice on a pretty regular basis when they do special events in addition to hockey.

I guess now that the election is over, the reporters are taking some time off to watch some sports.

Anger Stirs On Web Over 'Saved By Zero' Ad
Quote:
Angry Bloggers Say Toyota Ad Played Too Much During Sporting Events
[...]Anderson admits his campaign against "Saved by Zero" has been fairly limited despite its online following. He hasn't even written to Toyota to complain, he said.
Sure it's irritating, but so many advertisements are. I've seen plenty that have played over, and over, and over on every commercial break. Did anyone ever watch a show that was "brought to you by X"?

Tell me a subject that has not made a blogger angry.

I have a weird personality dissorder called "My sports must be watched live...ism". Even though I have a DVR, I just can't bring myself to record a game then watch it after-the-fact. It's like, once it's over it's done and what's the point? *shrug* dunno if anyone feels the same way--there's really no reason to it. Solong as you dont hear the outcome, it should be as good as watching it live.

Anyway, whereas the few other shows I watch are nearly all recorded and thus commercials skipped, with sports I can't do that. (I don't even pause them if I have to get up for something). Thus, the frequent (seemingly increasingly so) interuptions are part of the experience. What happened to good 'ol fashioned going to the restroom, getting a drink, or flipping to another channel? Are we really that spoiled now?

Yes commercials are great for when your drink has run it's course but no one has to go that much, no one drinks that much, and it seems that when a commercial is on one station, all the stations follow suit. You find yourself flipping through looking for an entertaining commercial. It's the same with radio. Remember when you can listen to a solid three songs in a row before a commercial?

I should admit that I rarely am watching tv without also having my guitar at hand. My g/f acts like commercials are the end of the world. I hardly notice them.

Though I'm getting sick of the increasing trend during football, after a score they go to commercial break. Come back for the kickoff, then as the offense takes the field, go back to commercial break. Then come back and you've missed the first play of the drive!

They've always done this to an extent, and they don't do it now after every score, but the frequency of the "double commercial break" seems to be more--or my patience is less. I HATE missing a play or a pitch due to them trying to squeeze in more commercials.

well, I hate the "two of the same commercial in a row" they sometimes do. It works, since it kind of forces you to pay some attention and you remember it better, but I don't have to like it.

Advertising--the one field where annoying the customer is really the profitable way to go.

There's a fine line between memorable and annoying--there's certinaly been products and places of business that I refuse to give money to based on either annoying or underhanded advertising practices.

There was an ad a few years ago for a DVR product, touting the ability to "pause live TV." The commercial showed a man watching a football game. As the kicker is getting ready to make a field goal attempt, the viewer pauses the TV, runs down the street to a church, makes a quick prayer, runs back home, and pushes play again to see if the kick was good.

Drove me nuts.

I remember a good one of those, but I don't remember the actual brand name, so maybe it wasn't all that successful! It was for a headache medication, and was basically a single commercial broken into two parts. There would be an ad showing a person with a headache taking the medication. Then there'd be a couple of other ads, then the same person would come on to show that their headache was now gone.

One of the top stories on MSNBC right now.
New photo reveals an elderly Charles Manson
Summary;
A routine picture was released.
He is now bald with a grey beard.
The picture was released because a media outlet asked for it.

So?

Edit: it's on all the major outlets. CNN actually says why. 40th anniversary of the killings.

I guess any excuse to mention Manson is on the table.

I don't think it would be safe for me to speculate on an answer to that. I'm just hoping you are asking a rhetorical question.

That's reassuring. I've always suspected that the body-snatchers woulds start in Washington and then spread from there, as the near constant cloud cover conveniantly conceals creature carrying craft.

Two Earth shattering stories on the CNN Headlines.

Prince William 'overcooked' aircraft engine
He flipped the wrong switch during training last year. It didn't cause a problem, and they "think" he turned it back on.
Of course, they need an entire story about the gory details.

Moisture, cold irritate some smart phone users
Moisture can affect an electronic device? Unbelievable.
And trying to press little buttons with gloves is hard?
Sorry; but the way you treat a delicate device is not the problem of the device. Maybe they can make a tougher design, but I don't see them making any claims about durability.

It's the fault of the designers, certainly, but it's also the fault of a public that wants things really, really tiny without recognizing that there are sometimes problems with that.

(video) Aggressive driving is dangerous

According to the AAA, speeding, running red lights or stop signs, cutting people off, tailgating, crossing the center line and going off the road are a leading cause of accidents.
