Talking ToSeeking Phil on the latest piece of Pareidolia

I just checked Phil's blog, and he has not caught up with this piece of hokum reported on Sky News

Quote:
A fiery figure in flames is being hailed as the latest miracle of Pope John Paul II.
The image is said by many to be that of the late Holy Father with his right hand raised in a blessing.
I just thought I would report it and get the jump on Phil and his ever exploding irony gland

BTW also reported in the Daily Mail

Looks more like Liberty spilled torch fluid on herself and it caught.

I don't mind people having faith in seeing icons in this way. After all, isn't that part of faith? But, for the media to cover it? No.

I think it looks more like the Heisman pose. Probably the ghost of a former U of M, or USC winner who's upset at their team's embarassing losses.

But I watch a lot of football (americana) so that's probably why I think it looks more like that. Pareidolia.

i'd be impressed if it wasn't just a single frame, and an actual movie of an actual column of fire that stood there like that for a while and maybe walked around and blessed people or something..

If I ever saw this for real, I'd believe there was something to Pareidolia:

Apparently he and Aquaman had a bit of a spat and are not on speaking terms.

I have no idea what it could have been about...

Maybe something with his sister. For an invisible girl, she sure attracts a lot of admirers.

Yeah...
Less defensive please.
It's just that...
Some things can just get sensitive.
I wouldn't laugh at Buddha or Gandhi either.

Joseph Smith, however, is fair game

i laugh at everything- in my world, there are no sacred cows.
if God didn't want us to laugh at everything, then why did he make so many ridiculous things?

Ok, here we go...Not just your normal pareidolia. This one actually relates to astronomy.

Man sees Jesus in meteorite
As I ask with many stories...If this happened almost a year ago... then why is it a story now?

It means there are rocks in the skies.

Because when reporters and editors get bored, they start going through the old piles of unread slush to find something with novelty value and/or controversy.

I guess it's my problem that I keep thinking the word "news" actually comes from the word "new".

The article mentions that offers have been made to buy the meteorite. They don't say that it's because it's a meteorite, which is worth big bucks whether or not there's divine intervention involved.
