My primary email is gmail. It does the job but the one thing I dislike is when I first log into gmail it will default to its crufty, heavy-download (I'm on dialup) interface. I've checked through gmail's settings but haven't found one that will always load up the html version even when I first log in.
I'm already aware of http://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=html and use it when I am using my primary gmail account.

Also would someone recommend a good email client. I'm currently using Thunderbird and I'm less than thrilled because it takes so long to start up and I have to enter my email password every time unless I decide to risk leaving my email password in an insecure file and crossing my fingers every time.

Eudora is pretty slick and continues to function after the free downloadable trial version expires.
