Default our mysterious yellow sun

How come Superman's super strength and unearthly abilities are due to the fact that his adopted homeworld has a yellow sun and yet the Green Lantern can use his power ring willy-nilly despite the proximity and power of a cosmic source of yellow? And why doesn't Superman get marginally weaker around sunset?
Has DC addressed any of these burning issues in one of their issues? How?

Lots of times, over lots of years, by writers who did not examine the back issues or consult one another, resulting in several completely contradictory explanations.

Does Superman need to intake oxygen? If not, we should never see him breath while in the atmosphere. Or does he just hold his breath for the long times that he is in space? I has to know?

Does Superman ever have gas? If so, that must be horrific.

Golden Age: Yes, he did.

Silver Age: No.

Post-Crisis: First yes, then no as they boosted his powers.

"Mr. Luthor, is that an alpha-wave detector?"

"No, Otis, it's a bloodhound!"

Maybe he holds it in for a long time. But then has to let it go so he zips into space - and here on Earth we detect a GRB.

Maybe one tiny little Superman doo-doo is what hit Comet Holmes. I could be rich with this new ATM Theory. Write a book maybe. Have millions of followers . . .

His digestive system is super-efficient. Any excess methane gets burned to power his heat vision.
