A valid point is a valid point. Cross referencing shouldn't be forbidden.
It applies there and should have thought applied to that.

You have now successfully loaded the thread Commercials That Don't Sell Anything. Windows Vista is now entering Reduced Functionality Mode for your protection. Please contact Microsoft for a a new license key to reactivate Windows Vista features.
Excellent post that touches on many of the reasons people are becoming disenchanted with "Vista ME".

Speaking of the thread topic. (Remember the thread topic?) I don't recall seeing any ads for Vista ME at all. No Rolling Stones singing "Start Me Up", no flying around while Madonna sings, ... What happened?

I don't think so, but perhaps I should clarify my point. Obviously, personal experience trumps well-meant messages, but that doesn't mean that nothing should ever be done that might help others.

Only problem, "Hugh", is what are you going to run after you have slain the dragon from the inside?

Maybe now we'll start seeing some commercials for Apple's new version of OS X, "Leopard". Unfortunately they will probably be as hip and obscure as IBM's ads for OS/2 were. (See how I segued back to the thread topic?)

I don't know if there is anything that can get people to take this stuff seriously, but if the commercials help with some, I'm all for them.
But sometimes, if it is done wrong, takes the wrong attitude, or path, a commercial can hurt the message it is trying to make, no matter how well intentioned. I see these TRUTH commercials, and with the way they are done, they just scream, LIE! to me. It doesn't matter if they are, or are not lying, or spinning their view, they way they are done, the whole attitude gives me the impression that they are lying through their teeth.

Not really. When my older brother was younger--as in kids age, he knew that smoking was bad. We were both bothered by the fact that one of my older, adult cousins smoked (at the time, doesn't anymore). Yet my brother grew up and now smokes. Did he forget? No. Does he wish he was dead? No. He just smokes. Why? I don't know.

What's a "commercial"?

Is that one of those things that pops up during a show I'm watching, in response to which I hit the mute button, and either see what's on another channel or get up and take care of some things?

Eventually those annoyances go away and I get back to watching the show I'm interested in.

Wait a minute, oh yeah, "commercials"! Those are the useless bits of uninteresting and often insulting baloney that I delete when editing a DVR recording.

OK, now I know.

Someone can say "smoking is bad" and still not really know, in their gut, the issues involved.

Exactly. Just as you can say to an HB "The moon landings were real.", but unless you actually confront their arguments, you don't have any chance of convincing them.

Except that many in Congress and some states are funding major programs (e.g. children's health care) by taxing only smokers. Ultimately, they'll need millions of new smokers to pay for these programs. As this YouTube satire video states, SCHIP: Care Enough to Smoke? Light up everyone, it's for the children!

Just reading about that makes me sick.
Some people should not have video cameras.
