Nope, at least on board of european airlines you are allowed to use cellphones. The European Aviation Safety Agency does allow it.

[tongue planted firmly in cheek]
Well all of us here in America know that Europe is still basically in the dark ages (they still have kings and queens..I mean honestly!) so what can they possibly know about air safety?

I didn't see the MythBuster episode, but the episode summaries I have been able to find online essentially say this:

When they set up some typical aircraft instruments along with some cellphones inside a Faraday cage (to eliminate outside interference), the instruments did show some interference. However, when they tested cell phones on a private aircraft on the ground, the instruments showed no interference. The conclusion they came to was that the FAA is simply playing it safe with the "no cell phones" rule, because they can't test all possible combinations of aircraft instruments + cell phones.

As long as you know what is really important.

The old "accidental" spilled drink in the lap is a lot less likely to land you in jail or lynched by overzealous co-passengers.

Not only is it a bad idea, it is not a new one. I remember someone's funny computer column from one of the PC magazines at least ten years ago with a little batch file you could stick in someone's autoexec file. In those days the airport security types would make you turn on your computer and would watch it till you got the boot screen. This thing would put a 9... 8... 7... etc. countdown on the screen. I never heard if anyone got arrested for that stunt. Really, if you want to play pranks on people, do it to people who don't have guns.

It was a joke, you know. I can't believe you thought I was serious.

I also stated that it was an old link.

That would explain your healthy glow.

Remember that folks tend to get pretty critical if the glow is blue.

Not to mention people who have the chronic loss of sense-of-humour, and the God-complex, that TSA "operatives" are reputed to have.

Not that I was planning to anyway, but I now refuse to fly to the USA, or even land there to catch a connecting flight.

If I'm going to be treated like a criminal, I would at least like to have the fun of committing a crime, first!

Cool Ouch

UK-minister held for questioning, again.

The irony being that he was on his way back from a counter-terrorism conference.
