Its all been said, and well. I can only add that if you were to take the advice of these medical nutritionists and other dietary experts theres a good chance you would starve to death...or worry yourself to a hart condition. Its all about education, balance and moderation... Most of us know this.
I really would be pleased if these little bureaucratic fools would just stay out of my life.

Just what I wrote, nothing more, nothing less.

Ah, it's time for some country-cured Virginia bacon, followed/combined with some eggs scrambled with chipotle sauce.

With a side of sawmill gravy on biscuits.

Yum!

Interesting that the story never explains exactly how the conclusion was reached that bacon causes cancer. The closest mention is "EATING any processed meat like pork sausages, bacon and ham...significantly boosts the risk of bowel cancer..." The article then goes on with the usual maintain a moderate weight, exercise, etc tips. So why was bacon singled out to be the bane of modern (at least British) society du jour?

Yes, but a biscuit isn't quite bread. It is a quick bread--no yeast. I'm not sure what you'd call it in the UK. However, here's a recipe to give you an idea. (I'm afraid I don't know the metric measurements.)

2 cups flour
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
7-8 tbsp shortning
2/3-3/4 cup milk

preheat oven to 450
combine dry ingredients
cut in shortning (I use a pastry blender)
mix in milk until it forms a dough, adding more flour if necessary
roll out to about 3/4 of an inch thick
cut rounds
bake for 18 minutes
serve hot with butter and honey (yum!)

Same recipe, but if you use a full cup of milk you get a very thick batter/thin dough that you can just spoon onto the baking sheet for drop biscuits. Great for those mornings you don't want to get out the rolling pin. A bit misshapen, but just as good.

Hi, We make a quiche lorraine once in a while. But......it's mostly chopped ham,
suateed onions, some...(read ..a little ) cheddar, and just three strips of bacon. Well,....the taste is still excellent, but it's healthier than using 10 or 12
strips of bacon. A salad on the side, a fine Alsatien wine...next thing you know.....you ' re eating fine.
Best regards, Dan
PS: I've only lived to 59. If I keep it up , I won't be able to avoid 100.

Well, I got my fix of pork tonight...on homemade pizza. Hand tossed crust, homemade sauce, and Canadian bacon* that was home cured for 3 weeks, and lovingly smoked over applewood. I'm really gonna have to try my hand at curing and smoking country bacon.

*Not to be confused with what Canadians rightfully call Canadian bacon...but rather, the American version which is a cured & smoke pork loin, without a cornmeal coating. It's essentially ham, by look and taste but technically, ham must come from the leg to be called ham, so we call it something else...that it technically isn't. Clever, eh?

And after all that, it still ain't kosher!

Funny what hams will do to hams...

OK, PC, over to you, if properly smoked and cured.

Meanwhile, I've got nice local tomatoes, my own leaf lettuce, and some thinly sliced Smithfield bacon ready for a ...
