Default King Tut, on display

According to National Geographic News, the mummy of King Tutankhamen went on public display today for the first time ever. No information from Dr. Hawass' official site yet, but I keep checking.

Just pleased to report some not-so bad archeology!

This NG link works better.

I remember this documentary that showed Zahi Hawass and team bringing a CAT scan and using it on King Tut. Now guess what happened when they first tried it? The whole thing malfunctioned and they had to reboot it. The look on Dr. Hawass' face was funny, he might have just considered the possibility of the curse.
It was pretty cool to see the first digitalized mummy. They also predicted his face and this is what they came up with.

Yeah, that program was cool. Zahi is the man.

The size of the face doesn't seem to fit the size of the head. Why is the top of the cranium so low? Did this culture practice skull-squishing on their children while they were still soft, like some precolumbian natives of Central America, redistributing it back instead of up?

From time to time I wonder where the line between archeology and grave-robbing lies. Just wondering.

This is an honestly good point.

But history should be examined and learned. Archeology provides for that.

It is not (at least more and more so in modern times) a motion of disrespect to the owner of the grave, or a greed for disposable wealth so much as to learn as much as possible about the past. Lasting documentation and knowledge.

When it comes to the moneys involved... Well, that is the nature of it I guess. It's an expensive business all around.

Nefertiti is often depicted as looking like a cone-head.

I'd much rather see a museum display about another King-- Jack Kirby.

"Wirtten, pencilled and inked by JACK KIRBY"

I handed on my comics collection to my son a few years ago: lots of Kriby in there.

I guess he's old enough to get the National Lampoons now

I love comics.
Experts say that some of Atenaten's family may have suffered from a disease that causes the skull to have a funny shape.
