Today would have been Carl Sagan's 73rd birthday.
Just thought you'd like to know.

Happy birthday, CES, and thanks!

"Would've like to known you, but I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before your legend ever did."
For saving the world from atomic anihiliation when most of the world's other scientists were building the means for it.
For informing us of the fragility of our small world and the importance of protecting it's environment.
For fighting against ignorance wherever it reared its ugly head.
For working to discover life beyond Earth.
For educating and inspiring thousands, perhaps millions to become scientists and continue to explore.
As a kid, you wanted to go to Mars. Because of your work, this kid may well yet.
You were a superhero without powers.
Happy birthday, Doctor.

So it is. Carl shared the date.

Azazael

Did the One keep the scapegoat?
He did save Ishmael?
It always seemed a bit of covering His mistake.

Threescore and ten years ago an excuse was found.
Excuses can always be found.
A diplomat is shot
The Archduke is shot.
Mistah Lincoln, he shot.
Absolution by lead.

Remember, remember the ninth of November.

Carl Sagan would be 1 billion years old on that day.

... just thought I'd point that out.

True, but he would have said it differently: 1 beelion years old.

Also, in galactic years, he would be only 4.

Heh, I saw this thread and thought "Wait, I thought Kai already started a Segan's B-Day thread once this year."

Twasn't until I say your "bump" post from today that I realized this was an old thread. Doesn't seem like you've been around for a year (actually a little more).

Happy b-day Karl; sadly, unlike Neverfly, I didn't bake you a cake (because, well you know... ...I don't bake).

edit: heh; also just noticed that today is indeed *not* Nov 9th. So happy late birthday. Hopefully those in the spirit world will forgive a few days tardiness.

I know, it's very odd seeing the things I posted a year ago. Some of them look sort of dumb to me now.

I baked some TollHouse chocolate chip cookies on Sunday - does that count?

No candle, though, unless you count the piece of cookie dough that got onto the burner in the stove and flared into flame for a moment.

I finally got around to reading Contact this year. What a fantastic read!

Farewell and Happy (belated) birthday Carl.

No worries; many of the things I post look dumb to me as I'm typing them. We'll not mention some of the gems I find when I look back at my posting history.
