Default "steenkin Snow !!! "

" Snow ? We don't need no snow . We don't need no Steeenkin snow !!!"

Are we having fun yet? I just got my first foot of it...
and we have another foot comming sunday.
Ah.... to remember October...golf in my shirtsleeves, easy walks down the road with a warm breeze on your neck, birds singing, green leaves....
Here's hoping you are safe and warm. I'm only half shoveled out.
Back to work.
Best regards, Dan

October wouldn't have been that way in R.I. in the 1970s, I'm sure.

No snow where I currently reside (the south), but I'm originally from up north...where snow/cold/winter is a much tamer animal since the early 1980s than it was prior to.

Just to cheer you up:

Jingle bells
jingle bells
jingle all the way!

Oh what fun
it is to ride
in a 1-horse open sleigh
HEY!

Hi, Thanks for the cheer! I needed that.
Well, it's nothing like the blizzard of '78 , but.....you should have seen Providence yesterday! I think they are going to have a meeting. They had kids on school buses trying to get home at 9 PM last night. What a mess.
What is it about " halfday due to snow emergency" that they don't know?
The halfday? Or the Snow ? I'm glad these people don't work on my brakes!!
Best regards, Dan

I think it's the reporting.
There's always such doom and gloom in the forecasts that there would never be any school if they always closed them based on the forecast.

So, to be safe, they wait to see what the actual conditions are. Usually, they end up ok, because there's enough time to call off school or get them home. It's the quick hit storms that hit mid-day that cause the issue.

We were supposed to get some of that storm yesterday morning, and with the predictions, we were supposed to be buried in ice.
Now (actually, yesterday) they even had to run this story on why it didn't snow.
Quote:
After everyone predicted lots of travel woes this morning, folks were scratching their heads and wondering "Where was all the snow?"
It's easier to make the prediction close, and explain the result later, than it is to make a good prediction in the first place.

Now; we are under winter watch alert conditions for Sat/Sun. What puzzles me is that the alert expires today at 11:30 am. I know that means it's in need of update, but, can't they use better wording?

That was quite a storm! It shut down New York City for about two days and I think Providence for a week.

We're supposed to get about 8" over the weekend. I still would rather have seasons - when I lived in Louisiana it was summer and "not-summer".

By the way Dan, if the snow literally stinks.... well, make sure you don't eat it.

I wouldn't have minded so much if we got real snow yesterday, but instead we got this nasty, sleety, slushy, kinda sorta ice/kinda sorta snow that was impossible to shovel, and which froze solid overnight. Not fun to take care of this morning.

" Dreamed I was an eskimo....frozen wind began to blow ....
over under and around my toes! It was a hundred degrees below zero...
OOOh OOOOH! "
I'll be back. Goin to a party in my outback. Wonder of wonders, a guy came and gave my driveway a push with a low. "Who was that mask man? "
Came and left like that. Didn't take a nickel I tell ya. But.....
he's beautifull people, that mask man.
See you later,
Dan

Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow.

Ella Grasso shut down Connecticut for three days on account of that storm. The road in front of my house was like a tunnel.

The first winter after I moved to the Augusta, GA area, it got a little chilly in January and one morning I noticed we had a dusting of snow. I switched on the radio while driving to work on relatively empty roads and found out all the schools had canceled classes. Even some businesses had closed.

The first winter ('87-'88) after I ended my two years in Louisiana, New Orleans had about 1/2 - 1" of snow. I understand the mayor declared marshall law to keep people off the streets.

That's funny, because I think that's exactly what I said when I had to go shovel it. "Aw, sneesh! I don't wanna shovel that stuff!"

Edit to add: I actually wanted to call it something far less family-friendly. I'll let your imaginations do the work on that one.

Snow is a wonderful thing - we have perhaps 8" on the ground right now, it's been there for a week, and more is coming down right now

I couldn't be happier

It snowed yesterday, but now it's clear and I'm waiting for the Geminids at 9:00 PM, local time.
