Fish, spanish rice and broccoli. The fish (Pacific cod) was sort of 'blackened' in that I coated it with ground sichuan pepper, dried chiles from the garden, salt, oregano and turmeric (more for color than anything else) and dropped into a really hot pan coated with toasted sesame oil. Cod isn't the sort of fish you normally cook in this manner, but it was what I had on hand and it worked out great.

The rice was from a box (leftovers, actually), which I cooked with a can of Hatch chiles and tomatoes. Hatch chiles are the wonderful, Anaheim-style chile that have a moderate kick similar to a jalapeno.

I love my wok. I bought it many years ago in San Francisco's Chinatown and it gets used frequently.

Tonight was a basic chicken stir-fry using stuff from the fridge before it got too old.

-Free-range chicken breast marinated in fish sauce and teriyaki.
-Chopped fennel bulb
-sliced scallions
-diced garlic
-celery
-carrot
-fresh basil
-sichuan pepper
-three chiles from the freezer
-some cool mushrooms I got at the local asian market. Not sure of the type but the brand is Hokio. We have great markets here in Atlanta.
-served on brown rice

Some photos - not all the ingredients are shown:

I had an MRE (Meals Ready to Eat), thanks to Hurricane Ike. It was a Penne Pasta. It was very good. In fact I've paid for some that didn't taste as good.

I am just going to sit here.

And stare at you like you are crazy.

I do not know why.

I just feel compelled to do so.

And when you go to pass that penne later, you may regret your words.

It was far better than the cold canned Chef Boyarde spaghetti that I had for lunch.

It's been an old standby weekend. Last night was lasagna; this afternoon I prepared some hot wings; and tonight, vegetarian spring rolls. All are things I make fairly often.

The rolls are made with Vietnamese tapioca wrappers and filled with tofu fried in sesame oil, roasted chilaca chile, carrots, celery, a couple of green-onion like vegetables I bought at the asian market whose name I forget, lots of fresh basil, and choy yu, a green-leaf vegetable from the same market. I like to experiment with spring rolls.

I'll prepare a hoisin/soy/something dipping sauce.

tonight I ate leftovers. My brother and I went to Mom's last night for some steak, mashed potatoes and salad.

it was just as good the second time. Ever eat fried-mashed potatoes?

We had this dish twice last week:

Gnocchi in a creamy chanterelle mushroom sauce. And Cabernet Sauvignon. Yum!
(Yes I know, red wine and veggies seems weird, but I personally just don't care - and if you do, I don't want to know you.)

I don't think I've ever had red wine and meat in the same meal. I've been vegetarian since before I was even old enough to drink... Wine and veggies go just fine according to me.

Also, that looks really good. There's an Italian place near me that serves something similar and I order it almost every time I go there.

I reckon tonight is Thai curry night. I'll let y'all know what I come up with in a couple hours.

Frequently. My wife and I boil cloves of Russian garlic and onions with the potato, drain, and mash them with some butter, salt and pepper. It's excellent. Even better, the next morning when I get up, I'll fry some of the leftover mashed potato in butter, and when it's browned, I'll add a couple of eggs to the skillet.

all, nice delicious photographs/recipes/talking food everywhere. this page is then peppered with ads about dieting. top and bottom. funny that!

yah, fried, mashed, potato (and rice plus left-overs, that i cook for our pet Lullie), the next morning in some butter/fat from bacon/sausage, what-have-you, goes down a treat with her (and me). she loves those patties.

Very tasty looking gnocchi, jokergirl. I won't care if you drink red wine with veggies if you don't mind that I'd prefer to open a Belgian beer.

I went ahead and uploaded a photo of the hot wings I made this weekend. I'm still trying to get the hang of the color balance with my new camera. Auto balance seems to work best, but I really need to do this with natural light.

Anyway, these were prepared to be spicy. That's Sriracha drizzled on top (not the main source of heat).

I promise you, I'll post some non-meat dishes. I do make them a lot, as my wife is of the pescatarian persuasion.

I'm about to fry up a batch of great spaghetti we made way too much of Saturday. Which is great because I'm too tired to cook.

Here's some French onion soup I made a while back. I have an old recipe from Esquire magazine that, along with providing the ingredient list and such, states that in order to make proper onion soup, you must slice the onions without taking any anti-crying measures at all. The soup preparation becomes a cathartic experience.

ETA: There's a non-trivial probability that I have already posted this picture. I have the memory of an elephant. Which is to say - horrible.
