Well, my first thought is kids who don't want to go back to school on monday. That's generally the case in the uk with the few we've had, or just vandalism for vandalism's sake. Chances are they can't even spell library, let alone know what one is!

I know it's probably related to the riots we've had in Copenhagen over the last five days, but why target a library?
It's one of the few things that'll give them a chance to get out of a bad social situation.

Whenver I hear of or see books getting burned in any manner- it raises the hair on the back of my neck and my fangs begin to gleam...

The goods news is that it is at least all replaceable.

I've got hundreds of books stacked about and overflowing bookshelves. I just can't bring myself to throw any away, even the ones I don't read anymore. There's just something about holding a book in your hand and reading that can't be beat by modern technology.
With this site it tends to be my A-level maths and astrophysics one stacked on the monitor for reference even though I could wiki it if I tried.

I don't think it was about the library by the sounds of it after reading your links, but rather something to go up in smoke that burns well, which is the unfortunate weakness of books.
Mob rule IQ is the square root of their average shoe size minus the number of individuals. Which says it all really.

My guess is the library represents an institution which is what they are protesting no? And as you said, books burn easy.

Then you find a book about what else burns or other ways to keep warm.

Or bury yourself in a pile of books to trap heat and keep warm.

One of the few sterling moments of "The Day After Tomorrow"...

Grab books on tax law.

Lots of people have burned books. It's a centuries-old tradition.

Here's a fun fest in Deutschland c. 1933

Then another shot of something similar, a record burning in Memphis TN in 1966.

Found something in a particular media that doesn't jibe with your beliefs or the policies of the state? Or are you a hooligan out to vandalize anything that represents civilization? What to do?

The answer is simple, my friends. Burn it!

There should be an award for the most original application of Godwin's Law written up for this.

It's probably more likely. It's not like a house where people can be in there either day or night where electrical appliances are switched on, they may smoke, they may have lit candles, there may be something cooking in the kitchen, etc, etc.

This is just an empty closed library at night.
