I take it from your post that Graham is home, congradulations, I know that was bothering you a long time ago. Hope things are well

I suspect Gillianren, upon reading this post, is experiencing a textbook case of "mixed emotions".

I finally managed to watch the replacement dvd for Cthulhu. The monster itself was not as well represented as I would have liked, but still an enjoyable short film (~45 min).

Was the dread master done better than this?

Those ones are a bit scarier.

They're very popular at DragonCon.

My cousin's going to DragonCon. Of course, he does live in Atlanta, so...

In an odd coincidence, the last two DVDs I've watched have been filmed in the style of the older cinema, or close to it. One was a take on silent films and the other a remake - the original from 1919. Most remakes are completely modernized with respect to sets, cinematography, special effects, etc., if not also the storyline.

The Call of Cthulhu (2005)
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (2005, original: 1919)

An interesting diversion from my normal movie fare of vampires, zombies and things blowing up.

In between watching In Bruges and Hellboy, I popped in the Persepolis dvd that had been sitting next to the TV for a while.

Persepolis is an animated full-length feature and tells the tale of a young Iranian girl during the time of fall of the shah, the Iranian Revolution and into the 1990's. As I lived four years in Tehran as a young boy (well before the events described in Persepolis), the story was maybe more interesting to me than it might be to others. Best animated film I've seen since The Triplets of Belleville.

French, with subtitles.

I've wanted to watch that for some time. I didn't have money when it came to the movie house downtown, and Graham didn't want to take me. (Besides, getting home from their shows is problematic, given bus schedules--they only do evening showings.) I'm thinking about putting it on my Netflix list so I get to it faster.

Tell No One - a very, very well crafted film. One of the best I've seen in a while.

I should get Persepolis tomorrow; it's currently at the top of my Netflix list. I'll keep you posted. (Well, of course, I'll review it for my journal!)

I acquired the TCM edition of the game Scene It at Goodwill Saturday, making one more trivia game I own that no one will play with me. I like to think that, had Mak ever visited Washington, he would have played.

Oh, the g/f and I would play. We love Scene-It... but you wouldn't have any fun--if it doesn't have some Disney Channel kid-star in it, my g/f probably hasn't seen it. And I'm awfull with names...or titles...or places...or things... yeah my memory sucks.

It is more fun if someone can actually give me a bit of a challenge. (When we played a different edition at my last birthday party, they made me go around the board twice. I, um, still won.)
