Default add rankings to this board

Vbulletin has a built in option to have rankings for users.

I feel that this would be a good option for this board to allow those who post accepted replies to rank the user ( I think there is also a way to rank a thread ). But sometimes I see people who are very knowledgable then others that are not so much. User rankings could help out. Thoughts?

Thumbs down

Everybody makes mistakes, even knowledgeable people. Such rankings would only give a false sense of security to the readers of the forum. Besides, who says popular vote is the right way to determine who is knowledgeable and who ain't?

Are we talking about evaluating the quality of posts so each of us would have a ranking based on what people thought of our contribution to the forum?

If so, I vote no.

See topic Who's an expert?

Even thread-rating was abused and then disabled. See topic Thread rating now disabled. (Discussion of the feature is in topic Rate a thread.)

On a smaller board with fewer members, ranking can be a very good thing. But on a large board with a Lot of members, it can be misleading and create issues.

yeah, and while we're at it, we could allow huge jpegs for avatars and in the sig line.
this would have the happy side effect of eliminating those of us that aren't smart enough to have anything better than dialup internet access.

Nineteen votes and the poll is closed. Not much of a sample in my opinion.

So what exactly are the benefits of rating threads. Don't think I've ever been on a board that used it and I'm not sure how it works or its purpose.

EDIT: This post was to the wrong thread - please ignore.
