Default Today is Doomsday!!!!

GLP is always good for a laugh. Apparently today is the end of the world. Too bad beer is doubling in price (maybe that's what they are referring to). Anyone know a good design for aluminum foil hats?

Oh boy -- Doomsday!

I'm going to pack a picnic lunch and go watch the 100-pound fiery meteors come crashing down...

Good thing for us that they aren't cumulative!

I refer you to this defining work on AFH design.

The abstract:
Quote:
Among a fringe community of paranoids, aluminum helmets serve as the protective measure of choice against invasive radio signals. We investigate the efficacy of three aluminum helmet designs on a sample group of four individuals. Using a $250,000 network analyser, we find that although on average all helmets attenuate invasive radio frequencies in either directions (either emanating from an outside source, or emanating from the cranium of the subject), certain frequencies are in fact greatly amplified. These amplified frequencies coincide with radio bands reserved for government use according to the Federal Communication Commission (FCC). Statistical evidence suggests the use of helmets may in fact enhance the government's invasive abilities. We speculate that the government may in fact have started the helmet craze for this reason.
And now for some musical accompaniment...
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

Maybe they meant Bloomsday. But that's June 16th.

Doomsday? Not all that uncommon an occurrence. The next one is this Friday. Heck, all Fridays this year are doomsdays.

If you can't find a relatively current "world is about to end" thread on GLP, it's only because you're not trying hard enough.

And on top of that, what about the real meaning of doomsday? "Day of Reckoning." This is April - tax season. What is it in the US, the 14th? It's the 30th here. Day of Reckoning, indeed.

A different take on the musical accompaniment for this strange and mournful day:

BA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA
BA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA
BA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA

LEONARD BERNSTEIN!!

BA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA
BA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA

Doomsday? Today? Whoo-hoo, no more cleaning out the garage for me!

Actually if I do stop cleaning the garage it will be the end of the world when my Mrs gets hold of me.

The 15th unless it falls on a weekend, else the first Monday afterward. I'm pretty sure that's true when the 15th falls on a Sunday, not sure if it's true if it falls on a Saturday. I never file that late. At one time (though not anymore) I used to file on Ground Hog's Day.

I "reckon" doomsday cost me about $2500 this year due to an unexpected windfall. Ouch! Even in normal years I usually owe a couple of hundred so I never file until the last.
