Default Good "People"

From another thread:

Well, you might be looking at life. We're "people," but technically they're not.

Then again, that raises an interesting comparison. We're human. But they may still be "good people."

What are people?

Time to start a new thread....

And so the thread has been started!

My Dad used to use the expression, "He's good people," which meant they were hard-working, personable, and a joy to be around. In my life, I've had a dog and four cats, none of whom were human, but I would dare say that all were "good people," as they all interacted with my family on a very personable level. Kind, affectionate, companions, smart, intelligent... Even my two cats could recognize several English words. One even fetched, although that's a very un-cat-like thing to do (he learned it from our dog, who was an adult when he was born).

My son and my brother's dog have this funny, very special relationship. The dog (a very large German shepherd) could rip him to pieces, but every time we visit, my son gets down on all fours and they touch noses. The rest of the visit, they're pretty much inseperable.

So - What are your definitions of "People?" Synonomous with humans? Or depending upon the life form, pretty much any where both life forms enjoy the other's company?

Somewhere in between, perhaps?

Now I know you're telling a tall tale. No one is an adult when they're born.

Just like a frog in a slowly warming kettle, huh?

I prefer to drop lobsters in hot. Some say they scream, but I say it's simply say it's expanding gas that's being randomly warmed and escaping from close quarters within the lobster's body....

Oh. And what cannibal? I ate him. Don't look at me that way! I was hungry!

Thump it, muck it on down...

This may be weird, but I consider people as a life form enjoying another's company, but also a life form that enjoys existing.

If that makes sense.

I'm a little fuzzy on the question, here.

I try to stick to the strictly human view of people. If I started allowing myself to personify my dogs, they would completely run the household. People are human, pets are pets. My dogs act more like other animals though. My maltese thinks he's a pitbull, my American Bulldog mimics Chewbaka, and my bulldog/boxer thinks he's a cow. He moos and grazes.

I'd also say that 'people' means humans. I do tend to anthropomophize my cats, though. I like them better than most people.
