I always say 'Embrace the Madness'.
Conformity is grossly overrated. And 'sanity' is only conformity of the mind, as dictated by the often-misguided social norms. If you researched almost any great figure in history you'll find they are all at least borderline loons. Thinking 'outside the box' often means bucking convention, not just being 'smarter' than others. Often 'thinking outside the box' IS being 'smarter than others'. Creative minds, especially, flirt with 'madness' because they access the unconscious brain with greater depth and frequency than the 'others'. It's been said, though I don't know the scientific merits of it, that creative minds are more prone to psychological disorders. Depression, for instance, often afflicts artists. Maybe it's because we -- I mean THEY -- spend more time roving the high and dark seas of their own mind...Which I reckon cna be a pretty darn scary place. ![]()

Although humorous, I disagree with every post so far.
![]() The reason being- if we take the OP seriously, nothing is defined to answer the question. "Madness" if categorized as lacking in critical thinking, logic or rationality is an instigator of misunderstanding and creator of problems. e.g. "Believing in Hoax Believer claims is madness." If we call Madness mental illness, then it is a physical function (or malfunction) within the brain. Heck, no part of that is going to keep someone sane. Madness if defined by experiencing human nature (e.g. Bungee jumping) is very much a sanity element. I'm overanalyzing this... |

"But I don't want to go among mad people."
"You can't help that, we're all mad here. I'm mad, you're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" "You must be, or you wouldn't have come here." Fred

But being utterly sane and totally different means paying a price. For some it is depression, for me it is escapism into logic and mentally saying goodbye to all the beautiful people every time I go out and toughing it out. Third volcano dream in a month. First one far off and ground shakes. A week ago see the volcano with straight sides and smoke plume. Night before last volcano in the dream just outside the city and opens fully on left side. Accessing the unconscious has benefits and costs, you adapt or die an emotional death.

Believing oneself is mad is a coping mechanism. Accepting that one has pushed ones mind as far as one might can bring repercussions, lucid dreaming. Whatever happens in life happens and the key is to keep moving forward. Besides it makes me feel just that bit better if I do consider the world to be mad because then it is not my fault. Eliza would probably appeal to the youth with the net-speak or anyone under pressure, appears to be helpful. Now if she could understand complex geometry I would be in a position to enjoy a full on conversation. Back to the drawing board.

a "News Holiday" every so often. Don't let the buzzing disturb you and your life. Many of the people we describe as " Mad" are simply socialy disturbed. They can be helped if, in the company of the right sort of people, if they want to be. And the others........ (shrug)... just want attention of some sort.. |
