There has been alot of fluf posts around so I thought mayby we could get down to some serious discussions :P
Beaver top five picks 1.Moose Head 2.Alexander Keiths IPA 3.Sleeman silver creek lager 4.Becks 5.Upper Canada lager I prefer Canadian brew first, but my second would have to be German. I am shure all the beer drinkers are wondering what brew the B.A. drinks.

I'm not much of a beer drinker, but doesn't the U.S. of A. have some beer companies, too?

BEER! =D>
Now you are talking my language. As I sit here in St. Louis, Busch and Budwieser remain on everyones mind. However, having spent 9 years in Germany, I had the chance to try many different brews. You have to keep in mind that there are upwards of 1600 distinct brands, many of which are only availiable at the small brewery that makes them. We refer to this as 'micro brews', Germans call this concept 'normal'. The brew of preference amoung us stationed in Ansbach was Hauff. this was produced by a small brewery in the small nearby town of Lichtenau. They opened for business in 1489. when we had to go to the Hohenfels training Area for tactical training, the local brew was Thurn und taxis out of Regensburg, they started brewing in 1066. There were many others in between, their names escape me (been a long time). I used to go to a little Gasthaus in Vestenburg (near Ansbach) when I ran out of Hauff, the place was a little hole in the wall, but they produced a fine product. While I was in Kaiserslautern, BBK (Bayerish Brauerei Kaiserslautern) ruled the roost. they produced, among others, a brand they called 'Pirminator'. We called them 'Terminators' because this was a dark beer with alcohol content far above what was considered normal. It's been almost 9 years since I last left Germany and I have yet to find a brew which can compare to those fine brews that for now, remain a fond memory. 8)

I get to Ann Arbor occassionally, and when I'm there I make a point of stopping at a joint called Ashley's--60 different beers on tap and lots more bottled. I think most Americans are so stuck on mass-produced lagers that they never even taste all the wonderful varieties of beers out there, especially the ales--my favorites.
Gmann--A couple of years ago I made a Russian imperial stout for Christmas. Due to some last minute changes (realized I needed more yeast and did some substituting) I wound up with a beer whose alcohol content was approaching that of wine. Add that to the already hearty contents and I had a beer you could eat with a spoon. Oddly, I've had several requests to make it again. ![]() |

Hmmmmmmm PBR........Ok not really. But there is a great little brewery in Atlanta called Sweetwater that makes a nice line. Otherwise I like Sam Adams, Molson, and this crap one of the guys in my lab brews. It is an odd sort of taste like a pilsner only kind of thick at the same time and boy oh boy will it set your eyes blurring quick.

It appears Germany is winning easily.. Well, it's Germany. What do you expect? I even voted for it and I've never drank except for a sip from my aunt's drink and that tasted like stainless steel to me. BLEH.

This Australian is upset...
I think I can understand it though - we have fantastic beer - I've drunk all sorts of imports and they don't compare! However, we only export a product some of you may know - Fosters. As far as the majority of Australians are concerned - Fosters is pig-swill. Even the export quality stuff - what you guys would know us by - doesn't stack up with the other beers. I voted for Holland - as Dutch imports appeal to me - and my own beer is not on the list. Don't like UK beers - they're often not refrigerated (what the?!?). Don't like US beers - too much like making love at the beach (do NOT ask me to explain this one - it's rude) My fav beer is called Crown Lager - jeez it's nice. More alcohol content - but wow - soo smooth and silky. We also have a good bitter beer - Victoria Bitter - if you're feeling a little more salty. =D>

Hey freddo, We had Foster's make a debut in Canada after the Crocodile Dundee craze. Bought it and after the first bottle gave it to the bums that did not understand BYOB (bring your own bottle) at a couple of parties I hosted. Finding Fosters in Canada is like finding a rationalist in a I Love Lucy convention.

I'd have to say out of the list provided I would have to go with Germany. I prefer their darker beers. The U.S., however, makes my favorite beer: Samuel Adams close second would have to be Amberbach. Most other main stream beers on this side of the pond taste like barley water like Mic and Mic lite, and Budwiser. I think I get more of a buzz from Coca Cola.

Fosters is poor going at the best of times. That's why we export it - no Aussie is stupid enough to down it!
