It's over. Went well. More planned.

Better than the BA live chat. I think she mentioned Dr. Who not once!

Edit: Video archived at: elakdawalla's Recorded Videos

Oh, yeah, and she's thinking of doing a vdeo chat from JPL the day of the Phoenix landing. Keep your fingers crossed.

Shoot, man, 11 minute buffer from OP to start of chat. Is there a schedule of these things somewhere so we can get more lead time?

Not that I know of. Maybe after our favorites get into a rhythm, they'll be regular enough to have a posted schedule. For now it seems the chat stars are still just checking out the concept, and things roll somewhat spontaneously.

The BA's getting semi-regular, though. (I told him that oat bran would help.) Sunday afternoons, usually 1500 Mountain Time.

But then, just when it gets to be a habbit, and we know a regular time, they'll have said everything and lost interest, or there'll be a new more modern way of interacting with fans. Maybe something that doesn't require 200 people to all gather at one time for an hour. With no bartender.

One thing the stars could do is spread the word a little better. I'm a poor conduit. If Phil and Emily would make sure to publicize the next chat whenever they schedule one, at some of the more likely forum watering holes, they might snag a slightly larger audience.

Thanks for the explanation. And thanks of course for the postings about the chats. Your doing that is appreciated.

For mike alexander: why is it I find something Erie about the name Lakdawalla?

Was a railroad. Mak and Mike, take heart. I wasn't even alive when the EL went bust, and I still got the joke.

Mak, Mike.....this wood off gone down a scream at our geography-game!!!

I have been fortunate to catch Ms Emily Lakdawalla, recently, on some Discovery programmes. She's a fine lady and an accomplished commentator. and my hats off to her. and to Carolyn Porco at Boulder - who's keeping tabs on Cassini. Ms Porco is also another distinguished scientist, doing hard work for the rest of us.....

As Sunil mentions above, Lakdawalla is also an Indian surname.
'Lakda' means wood -- masculine form; 'Lakdi' denotes feminine form; the 'walla' element is complicated for me to explain...
it implies ownership and / or association with. having popular usage in the days of the Raj..... as if you guys didn't know already.....Me thinks, the surname is Pharisee

the railroad scenario is apt....considering all the wood involved....
but mike, yes, i won't ask. not here anyway.

have a nice day all....
best regards

I have nothing but the utmost respect for Emily Lakdawalla and Carolyn Porco (with whom I have exchanged many emails re Cassini, in which I have a professional interest) and their many accomplishments.

The main idea of the post was to see how many old line railroad buffs there are here.

Joined The Planetary Society back in the early 1980s.

Would Miss Phoebe Snow be disappointed in the response?

She probably would, along with Betty Crocker not enjoying the food served during the journey.
