Default Tesseract Tattoo

I want to get a tesseract tattoo and I want a 2nd (possibly hundreds) opinion. I've asked my girlfriend what she thinks and she: 1)doesn't know what it is, 2) doesn't want to know what it is, 3)doesn't care.

of course it wouldnt be moving like the gif, but I wanted to post something so you know what specific image I'm going for. I've seen the 2d versions (intersecting line models) and that doesn't please me like the 3d model does. I love the tesseract and Carl Sagan's explanation of it (google it if you havn't seen it) and I think it would be great. But with all my tattoos, I want other's opinions on if its a good idea or not.

I think you should think twice. Tesseracts don't look as interesting when projected onto a two-dimensional surface as they do in 3-d animations.

If you have to explain to people what a tesseract is, especially the tettoo artist, then I think you need a different pic.

It will depend on how good your tatooist is and how good the picture is you take to him. If there is no other shadeing other than the lines or cylinder shapes it could look like a half finished box! Talk to your tatooist and bring him/her some pic's!
Good luck!

I'm not that big on tattoos, but if you're going to get one, I'd suggest drawing out exactly what you want on paper. Way, way back I did 2-D line drawings of a tesseract with colored pencils for some high school project (this was before personal computer days), and they turned out well. Multiple colors helped with visualization and just looked better.

'Course, I don't know what it would look like on skin.

Cabose, go for it, it's a neat idea. I kind of wish I thought about it before I decided I am done with tats.

My two cents (and yes I have tattoos - one of which covers a large area of my back) - If you have to ask others' opinions on your tattoo then don't even think about getting it.

Lotus, that doesn't have to be the case. Cabose may have decided already that he/she wants another tattoo and has a general idea. Sometimes other person's input could inspire some really nice ideas. I know with my tattoos I look at them, decide that I want to add something to them but lack any and all creativity. That's when I ask others for opinions.

Try wrapping something like this around an arm, you can get creative with coloring, matching face to face and surfaces meeting each other.

Hi! I am thinking about putting toxic ink my skin, permanently. Do you think it is a good idea?

Are you joking? Try swallowing some. The low end of the toxicity scale, no doubt, but still, IMO, a very silly thing to do.

I am not joking.

Do you consider water (clean) to be toxic? It is. Swallow enough and you will die. Industry standard tattoo ink is not toxic.

Alcohol is toxic, too. Many choose not to use alcohol for that reason, and that's ok!
That being said, what someone chooses to put on or in their own body is up to them. Moderation is the key for most things! (including water!)

I was about to complain that someone had registered for an account just to resurrect a six month old thread, but then I realized that it's a very four dimensional thing to do.

I think you guys are taking me much too seriously here. If you want a tattoo, by all means get one...or a dozen. Just call me in 30 years and tell me if you're still glad you did it. Why do you think the tattoo removal business is booming these days?

And, yes, the ink is toxic...have you seen what happens to many people's skin after they have had their tattoo for many years? It ain't pretty. Comparing it to water is ridiculous. There are degrees of toxicity.

But, again, get all the tattoos you like.

Quote:
Fans of tattooing are putting poisonous chemicals into their skin because of widespread ignorance about the substances used in tattooing dyes, the European Commission is warning...It said most chemicals used in tattoos were industrial pigments originally used for other purposes, such as automobile paints or writing inks, and there was little or no safety data to support their use in tattoos.

In addition, laws demanding that tattoo artists use gloves and sterile needles did not include rules about the purity of dyes or toxicological 'risk evaluation', meaning they could be impure and dirty without breaking the law.

Heavy metals are used to give tattoo pigments their permanent color. The specific ingredients that are used in the pigments differ by color and by brand, but may include not only lead and arsenic, but also antimony, beryllium, chromium, cobalt, and nickel -- metals that have also been linked to bad outcomes in people. The amount of these metals in a tattoo may be substantial. For example, AESI states that the ink used for an index card sized (3” by 5”) tattoo contains 1.23 micrograms of lead, which is more than double the amount permitted per day under California’s Proposition 65.

Your tesseract tattoo will be interesting depending on your prefered design and the skill of the artist. The image you posted is perfect dark background and the right light for the lines.
