If I remember correctly that was Johnny Carson, briefed by Randi before the show, who made a complete fool of Geller though he (Geller) tried hard to weasel out of it,

Yep, it was The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson...but it was Geller that made a fool of Geller. IIRC, Randi actually spoke with the stage manager (or similar) and suggested the means of foiling Geller's trickery. Basically, what it amounted to was denying Geller and his manager access to the test items at any time prior to the show...and it worked.

Saw a vid of Randi facing another fraud, who could turn pages of a phonebook without touching them. Very nice solution to show how it worked... and hilarious to see guy trying to wiggle out of it.

its good to talk about this I ran into problems back at Apollo hoax boards..yes there are tricksters but some people are genuine and have all kinds of experiences..that science has no explanation for (or sometimes sadly doesn't want to know)...

I am spiritually minded and as far as I am concerned there are alternate realities that we will one day we will no more about.

But yes I can see where your coming from & no Matsutov I have not been to Broolkyn and bridges are interesting engineering feats..and I have no intentions of jumping off one, I AM HAPPY BECAUSE I AM POSITIVE AND HAVE GOALS.

and as for OBE I was awake not thinking about any THING!! & that appears to be the "key"..without conscious effort. It's an extraordinary experience!

OT question for folks outside the U.S.: How familiar are you with "selling the Brooklyn Bridge"? It often goes "If you really believe that, there's a bridge I'd like to sell you" (or more subtle variations on that theme).

I love it when people say to me "Scientists don't know everything"...well duuuuuhhh, that's why they're scientists, they try to find things out.I'm just a dumb ol' redneck (& I play drums, which makes me even dumber),but I understand that.

I've never heard the saying about the Brooklyn Bridge..and REAL scientist ARE prepared to learn...but some scientist are DOGMATIC(in a -ve sense) about extraordinary possibilities...that go beyond CONVENTIONAL SCIENTIFIC POSSIBILITY.

I've definately heard the Brooklyn Bridge expression, but only used to describe anybody who was particularly gullable and/or stupid. I would say it's very well known here.

Have you (Paul Leeks) actually watched any of the videos of James Randi (and others) showing exactly how Uri Geller does/did his scam! Street magicians do it all the time. The only difference is that they are honest enough to admit, up front, that it's all "slight of hand"!

A lot less than what I'd sell it for. My calculations indicate a profit margin of somewhere near ∞.

the scientific methodology of some disciplines (psychology) is too objective to be real about human nature( which is subjective)..we are not robots,we are human beings.

Geology is an objective science..but is still conjecture as to how life really began,
The Earth maybe 4.6E9 years old but it is a sytem for life to take place..why are you here..can scientist answer that..they will just say evolution..to me there is a higher purpose that that. I don't love my friends and family..based on evolution or a BIG BANG random explosion
I have seen Randi/ geller videos.I have seen one video of geller with a sealed envelope(its on youtube somewhere) and an audience, he got it right when the envelope was opened...but the way he explained..."sometimes it comes to you and sometimes it doesn't" is the sort of thing I have experienced, "small inner voice" for me and I think that is the problem that people have when facing Anomalous Cognition, there is spontaneous PSI sometimes...like I say similar to a phone number..that comes to you like a word.but on a different level, like I say read a book called "Superself: The hidden powers within us(Ian Wilson)..

That depends how you see it. Another why of seeing it is how wonderous it is that everything in unverse is connected. Everything came from the same mass of energy that converted to matter as it cooled down the formed stars. The stars fused to atoms to create the heavier atoms needed for life. After billions of years life came to the pinnacle me, my coworkers and family. Once you know the truth of universe who realize who wonderous it all is.

You got the wrong field of science.

Actually is psychology is probably the least obejective and most subjective of any science if you count it as science. There is chemical aspect of psychology can be objective but the effect on the system as a whole can be very objective. Scienced such as the mainly disciplines in physics and chemistry are the most objective because all the conclusions are based of measurements that could redown by almost anyone with the same training.
