Activity? Maybe you do things in the summer with more gusto or more frequency than in the winter. Mine gives me more problems in the summer too; but it's likely to be from the much increased intensity and frequency of sports & chores. In the winter it settles down quite a bit, except for skiing weekends.

leaning over a desk for long periods usually causes back pain, you should get up and walk around more, during the day and invest in a good ergonomical chair to ease the stresses leaning over causes.
