You might want to check your statistics on that.

Stories compress and simplify because of limits of time and space. From Romeo spotting Juliet to Some Enchanted Evening, it's a plot device to get on with the fun. After all, if your girl is one in a million, there are approximately four of her in New York City. Given the total number of humans potentially available for a relationship, the person or persons you end up with are mainly determined by chance (Just like friends from college, or the Army). What this suggests to me is that humans have a great inherent capacity to get along with just about anyone, given a decent chance.

Love is one aspect of human relationships. Related to but separate from lust (A guy I knew in college defined love as what remains when the swelling goes down). Prof. Higgins was quite right when he sang "I've grown accustomed to her face".

I love my husband but, more importantly, is that I really like him. He makes me laugh. I plan on sticking with him. Yeah, love is grand but marriage is a deal. In a marriage, one makes promises one is expected to keep. One welshes on the deal, well....

I've been on my own before and lived just fine.

Why are these kind of topics popping up now in the OTB?

I'm happy for you Tinaa!

I suppose because most everyone has experienced love at one time or another. Comparing experiences is what we like to do.
