Default Teenagers driving less, gas cost

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — For car-loving American teenagers, this is turning out to be the summer the cruising died.

NY Times article

My buddies and I used to fill up a car with people and "get lost". Our goal was to drive out into the woods, get lost on a country road that no one knew, and find our way back. Sometimes it took several hours. At $0.89 per gallon we could afford that even making minimum wage. Now-a-days kids can't even afford to drive to work and back.

I'm sure teenagers will find something else to do, but they won't know what they're missing.

anyone see a rise in teen pregnancy come this school year?

I remember the year I graduated high school the local cinema (only one within 45 miles) started cracking down on minors and R rated movies. That year the number of girls that got pregnant doubled from previous years. The school nursery was overloaded.

Coincidence? I doubt it. When kids have nothing else to do they use what Mother Nature gave them.

Thank you for your E-mail and your order
this spambot just might be onto something.. if the kids can't drive, they might have to walk everywhere, which means their shoes will wear out.
as for gas costing too much for kids to drive- i have a simple solution.. they can get one of those things called a "job" and do that thing called "earning" money so they can "pay" for their own car and the gas and insurance for it.
yes, i know it is considered a mild form of emotional child abuse to make kids earn things these days, but times are tough, and if they want their parents to be able to actually afford to stay in that McMansion they bought a few years ago, they might have to start pulling their own weight around the house.

hmmm.... I'm sure your outlook isn't far from the truth, a little abrasive however.
