Default Shuttle Proposal

I would like to introduce a proposal that would force NASA to install hot-dog-roasting-sticks on the back of the shuttle. We are letting a rather powerful hot dog technology go to waste by only using it to get things into orbit.

In addition I would like to require a bonfire in the payload bay and freeze-dried smores. I mean this IS the ultimate camping trip after all.

Have mosquitos been tested in space? What are their flight characteristics in zero-g? Can space suits be equipped with mosquito repellent?

Are there bears in space?

Please! Send the mosquitos!!!! We have way to many. Bees and Wasps one can at least argue that they aid polination. Mosquitos have no redeeming qualities at all. Not a one. And if any of you scientific minded individuals come in here and try to explain how they fill a place in the ecosystem - I will not believe you. I believe we would get along just fine if mosquitos all disappeared right now.

Mosquitos feed a lot of creatures in the "Great Plan ".
But if you want a useless plant, may I submit "Poison Ivy ", my favourite
# 1 bad idea of the 'great plan '. Also, the pit on the mango and avacado are way too big. Hey....nothing's easy. My mother-in-law almost drowned.
She dropped her handbag in a glass bottomed boat!

You're not thinking big enough; zero-G margarita mixing is where it's at.

With its large capacity and big doors, the Shuttle would be a perfect orbital beer fridge. Coming up with a beer can that will function well in vacuum is the first step.

Sadly, if we spaced all the want-nots, all the wants would starve.

If we halt the ISS, all versions of Ares, and transport Orion and Altair aboard DIRECTv3's Jupiter family of Shuttle-Derived Launch Vehicles, we just might make it back to the Moon by 2020.

Bad design (waste of beer)

Sacrilegious!

Would a mosquito survive re-entry? We have to think about the global environmental consequences of mosquitoes spreading via space transport systems.

You guys are overlooking the obvious here, why not let NASA use mosquitoes as the lifting mechanism. Follow me here, you get e few billion mosquitoes, have sophisticated wirering mechanism, tie them to the Shuttle and bam lift off (admittedly this will only get you say about 10m above ground, nevertheless this will be a substantial saving in the fuel). Can someone calculate fuel/meter consumption of the Shuttle.

Not really, seeing as if your beer can is in a vacuum you are going to have a hard time bringing it to your lips.

Beer cans work well enough in weightlessness I would have thought - plus they have the added utility that they can been shaken up and used as a form of indoor propulsion when no convenient handgrip is available.

Now, if we can just develop a weightless beer bong, we can start construction on Space Station AlphaGammaPhi

A similar proposal...

Well, to reach the same speed they could use two African swallows, three cheetas, four llamas, or eight turtles. 'Least according to Maxis.

I just read that because of the stock market drop the Shuttle can no longer afford to retire. After it leaves NASA it intends to get a job working at Radio Shack.

That's so sad. It was going to spend its entire retirement going on cruises and playing shuttleboard.

Thats sad about the Shuttle being unable to retire.
Where did it put it's retirement savings money, I hope it didn't use Enron.
