My first time on after several days absence and I find this. Words fail to convey my feelings.
Though I sometimes expressed my irritation for his punning, his other posts was always a delight to read, reflections of a man of both knowledge and heart.

Your humor and wit entertained us all; your knowledge enlightened many of us.
The sun's a bit dimmer now, the wind has less savor, and our world less exciting with your passing, Maksutov. On this, your longest voyage, may you have fair winds, clear skies and calm seas.

I just got back on line after a week in the hospital. I got sick on the 6th, went in on the 7th with congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension (they're connected) so was pretty much out of it until yesterday. At least now I can be treated as an outpatient. I never contended with Mak, but always enjoyed his posts. I join the rest of the board in saying he will be missed.

Mak knew nearly everybody on BAUT, he used to read all the posts and threads, this I know and always had a knack at remembering where they were so he could e-mail them on to me!
He has touched everyone in many ways, got into little skimishes and then make a joke out of it! He never thought bad of anyone here and loved the challenges you all threw at him . He would IM me and say "BRB JUST GOING TO REPLY TO THIS ....." and I would get told to have a look, I felt like his proof reader sometimes and we would laugh afterwards. Mak was fair and balanced in what he wrote, so please don't say you didn't know him, you knew him in your own way and you have responded on here to show that. ![]() He is missed sadly everyday on here. ![]()

I didn't know him well, but I enjoyed his presence here. My thoughts and sympathy to his friends and family. We are less here without him.

Blimey, I've been away for a few days. The news about Maksutov has made me sadder than I would have expected for someone I only occasionally engaged with in messageboard banter..... sadly missed indeed.

A great loss. I have always enjoyed reading his post. When it came to a battle of wits he was always fully armed. My condolences to his family. He will be greatly missed.

Mak was the third internet friend I've lost this year, out of a previous record of zero.
Robb Douglass and Rabbit1 were the other two. "Knew" the other two for close to ten years, but of the three, though all were stunning to me, only Mak's passing made me weep. A couple of times. I really liked him.

I didn't know Maksutov well, but he seemed a fine man and I will miss his posts. I have been contacted by someone who has been banned from this forum and asked to "post some words here in memory of Paul Zukauskas". The words I have been asked to post are thoughtful and honor a good man. If such a post runs afoul of the Moderators that can't be helped, I honor the request made of me.
You would know the secret of death. But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life? The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto the day cannot unveil the mystery of light. If you would indeed behold the spirit of death, open your heart wide unto the body of life. For life and death are one, even as the river and the sea are one. In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your silent knowledge of the beyond; And like seeds dreaming beneath the snow your heart dreams of spring. Trust the dreams, for in them is hidden the gate to eternity. Your fear of death is but the trembling of the shepherd when he stands before the king whose hand is to be laid upon him in honour. Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling, that he shall wear the mark of the king? Yet is he not more mindful of his trembling? For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And what is to cease breathing, but to free the breath from its restless tides, that it may rise and expand and seek God unencumbered? Only when you drink from the river of silence shall you indeed sing. And when you have reached the mountain top, then you shall begin to climb. And when the earth shall claim your limbs, then shall you truly dance. On Death Faire Thee Well Paul Zukauskas, you touch more lives than you may ever know.
