Red face I A V A (OIF-OEF) NYC GALA Nov 10th

The person who received the award in the video is J R Martinez, injured severely in Iraq, now starring on ABC's (USA) All My Children.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xd_UE...layer_embedded

Enjoy.

What's a IAVA?
What's a OIF?
What's a OEF?

NYC is New York City, right? And GALA just a gala?

Why is this apparent award important? Why would I want to go watch a youtube link?

Maybe I wasn't clear. I don't know what those letter combinations mean. That's why I asked about it. I asked why I would want to stop my current music to view this video. What's in it?

I'll stick with Depeche Mode for now.

I love music too...lol

IAVA = Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran's Assoc.

OIF = Operation Iraqi Freedom

OEF = Operation Enduring Freedom

The chairman of MTV was there along with Bob Woodruff (and ESPN)...you already had incentive to watch from the OP.

Regards.

You lost me. And I still don't know why I would want to go watch this video... but that's ok, I won't. Bed beckons.

The assumption the OP acronyms would be recognized by all, for one.

HI,

Was that all?

Where? If you mean in a video, why would we watch the video without knowing what they mean?

Thanks, but I'm not likely to. I certainly won't be going, it won't be televised over here (I don't watch much TV anyway), and I've never heard of any of those people.

For starters, what, pray tell, did Martinez accomplish to earn the "2009 Veteran Leadership Award"?

The vid seems more a momento for those who attended the event, and/or a recruiting tool for the sponsoring organization.

Well, I can say for starters he endured about 40 surgeries/skin graphs and now is working as an actor on ABC's All My Children.

And how do either of those things relate to leadership? It's quite possible that he is an outstanding leader, but neither of those things would offer any indication whether that's the case or not.
