Default CO2 and global surface temperature. (GW Debate)

Could the amount of carbon dioxide released be caused BY the increase in average global temperature? Instead of the common assumption that it is the other way around. Or is there an external factor controlling both factors?

Or is there a corellation at all?

I'm debating Global Warming and how much of an effect we as a species have on the earth.
