Default LM and CSM flight paths

After separation [in lunar orbit] some photos [taken from the LM] show the CSM closer to the moon [which may be a bit backwards intuitive for the layman since the LM was headed for the surface but was farther away in said photograph(s)] e.g., this photograph.

While in orbit, did the LM and CSM stay in the same relative position to each other for a given orbit? Meaning, at 90 degrees around [from when the CSM was closer to the moon] would the LM then be closer to the moon?

If they were in equal period orbits, one a bit more elliptical, then yes. Actually, this is not all that significant while they are orbiting close together. Only after the major separation burn will the orbits be significantly different, then the LM will first drop behind the CSM then overtake it in a lower and faster orbit.
