Red face Just Wondering...

I know everyone's probably tired of people asking about this, but what about all this 2012 stuff? Does anyone think it will happen? I'm reading a book called "The Bible Code". It shows all the codes of events that were predicted in the Bible by coding. It says it will happen, but it will crumble to pieces. It says "I" will crumble it to pieces. Is this just a bunch of crap, or should I prepare just in case?

Nothing's going to happen. It is just a bunch of rotten peanut butter.

Ok, thanks. I was kinda upset and scared when I first found out. And what about NASA? They kinda act like they're trying to hide stuff. I was on their website and was looking around and it shows pictures of Nibiru or "Planet X" and shows where they said they discovered it in 1980-something. Then I went to the ask an Astrobiologist. The scientist that was answering questions about it keeps saying that they didn't discover it and they were awfully rude. I know they were probably tired of hearing stuff about it, but they didn't have to be rude. What do you think about this?

It's not that they are trying to hide stuff, it's just that they are tired of hearing these things. Just so you know, NASA does not have a monopoly on observations of space, and the folks talking about Nibiru have been predicting its arrival for a while now, and every time that the date comes and goes, the select a new near future date.

We have some lengthy discussions of this topic in the Conspiracy Theory section of this forum. Ask there, for pointers to some thorough debunking of this idea.

There's no scientific evidence for a 2012 cataclysm. Yes, we've had a lot of people ask about this, and I expect one of the folks here (01101001) will post a list to previous threads soon enough.

I sure don't.

We don't get much into religious discussion on BAUT (see the board rules, if you haven't already), but you might be interested in these links on that subject:

http://www.csicop.org/si/9711/bible-code.html

http://www.csicop.org/si/9803/bible-code.html

Bible codes are a form of numerology. It's pretty easy for someone to come up with ways to find what they want to see.

<Silly mode> They can't hide the fact that they're awesome. <Sillyy mode> (Seriously, though, have you been following the current shuttle mission? It is awesome!)

People have been trying to make money from "Nibiru" scams since at least 2003, so I wouldn't be surprised if he was tired of answering questions about it. Maybe he was also just having a bad day. You know, one of those days when you spill your lunch all over your new pants?

I seriously doubt you found a picture of Nibiru on a NASA webpage. More likely you saw it elsewhere and mis-remembered. If you tried to insist to an astrobiologist that NASA had found such a planet, its not surprising that they may have been dismissive. Just one big misunderstanding. Sort of like any episode of "Three's Company"

No not me. Notice I was quoted. That was in the Bible Code. So God is supposed to stop it considering usually when it says something like "I" or Him means God Himself.

Thumbs up

Oh, I see. Thanks for explaining.
I hadn't realised that this 2012 prophecy came from the Bible Code book!

I went to that site. Here is a link with the search term, "Nibiru":

http://nai.arc.nasa.gov/astrobio/ast...x=0&submit.y=0

I read all 13 questions and David Morrison's responses. They were good information, and you would get similar responses here. Regarding NASA websites and Nibiru, that is specifically discussed:

Quote:
Question:
I was on the NASA home page and searched Planet Niburu. Come to find out there actually is a planet beyond Pluto and they are calling it Niburu. Some said Planet Niburu didnt exist but now we know it does! There havent been many straight answers on this subject so I dont really expect to get the total truth, but here I go. Is there ANY chance of a Niburu flyby in 2012? And if there is why dont the public have a right to know so that we can prepare ourselves?

Answer:
I’m sorry if the NASA webpage confused you. I just checked, and there is no mention of Nibiru other than the various statements that it does not exist and is a hoax. There is a 2005 news story on the discovery of one of the transneptunian dwarf planets, 2003UB313. UB313 was subsequently given the name Eris, and there is plenty of information about Eris on the web, including a good introduction in Wikipedia. But this has nothing to do with Nibiru, which is not mentioned in the NASA story. I don’t understand why you and the others who have been writing to “Ask an Astrobiologist” don’t accept that Nibiru does not exist. You must want very much for this object to be real, although I can’t see why. But please accept the truth, that Nibiru is a hoax, linked to a religious cult, and having nothing to do with science. But perhaps some of you will need to wait until 4 years to see that nothing happens in 2012 when this object is supposed to fly close to Earth.

David Morrison

There are other answers that point out that Eris in no way matches the fictional Nibiru. I'm not sure I would say the responses are rude, but it is clear he's frustrated with the repeated questions. See this post:

Quote:
Question:
Is there a planet Nibiru that will pretty much destroy earth in 2012? I watched a video about it last night and I freaked out so bad i was shaking and crying. Is our world coming to an end in 2012? If so... why cant we just blow the thing up and call it a day?

Answer:
I am really sorry that these crazy Nibiru claims have upset you. I don't want to keep answering these questions about Nibiru, but let me say once more as clearly as I can, for you and the other questioners: Nibiru does not exist. NASA has never discovered or detected Nibiru or anything remotely like it. The handful of dwarf planets that astronomers have discovered beyond Neptune are on stable orbits that will never come into the inner solar system, let alone threaten Earth. Nothing will happen in 2012. Nibiru is simply a fake, a hoax, the result of a small religious cult that is unfortunately scaring lots of people with totally false stories.

It didn't come from it, but it is stated that it is predicted in the Bible that it's supposed to happen and such. The Bible Code is just explaining all the things that are encoded in the Bible. They are very interesting.

This is the one where he is being rude, talking about "Thanks for a good laugh"

Question: back
I understand that you said nibiru is a hoax but why on this website http://www.detailshere.com/niburu.htm they have live picture of nibiru to the right of the sunrise can you answer that?

Answer: back
The website you sent me is pretty funny. For example, the statement that the Earth's axis had tilted and the Sun had shifted from its correct place in the sky; anyone with eyes can see this is not true. Or the comment about building observatories at the south pole to observe Nibiru. The is no configuration possible that could be seen only from the south pole and not from the whole southern hemisphere. And they ask why no observatories have been built near the north pole. The last time I looked, the north pole was in the middle of the Arctic Sea, not exactly the sort of place to build a telescope. I can't believe that anyone would take this seriously. But you asked specifically about the pictures of sunset (not sunrise; look at the times of the frames). The bright point just off the Sun's disk looks to me like lens flare, which is common when pointing a camera directly at the Sun. The same lens flare makes the disk of the Sun seem to extend below the horizon in these pictures. In any case it doesn't take a rocket scientist to be sure this is not the image of a planet. The apparent surface brightness of the image is similar to that of the Sun, which would require (if it were a real object) that it be a very nearby self-luminous star not a planet. Anyway, thanks for a good laugh.
