Default anyone watch Harvey Birdman:Attorney at Law?

on Sunday night, while watching Adult Swim, i wound up watching Harvey Birdman. it was an episode about a time travel vortex (or whatever) that opens up in a hot tub, and sends everyone back to caveman/dinosaur days. they never really explain how or why it works, but just that it does.
anyways, they put together a big group to go thru the portal to find Harvey, and they all went thru the hot tub vortex thing- except the one one guy in a Red Star Trek:TOS uniform. he got "beamed" seperately- star trek style with sound and light effects- and wound up beamed into a rock. he did nothing for the entire episode but sit there in the rock, until at the very end, he got eaten by a tyrannosaurus.
anyways, that's the only thing about that show that i liked- the redshirt getting beamed into a rock and dying a pointless death. i wonder how many people across the country caught that little joke?

on a side note, how many "redhirts" actually died over the run of the original show? i've always wondered that.

The thing that I've always wondered more is how many "redshirts" died on Voyager... when they were completely and totally unable to replenish their supply of underlings. THAT always bugged me.

Dang, I hated that show.

The second I saw him, I said "buh-bye" and gave the TV a salute. The show was pretty forgettable, though.

Well, looking here:

http://www.memory-alpha.org/en/wiki/Redshirt

I did a rough count and I think I get 16 confirmed redshirt deaths. There were certainly more deaths, but they may not have been been wearing red shirts. Also, I don't think I see "The Changeling" mentioned, and I thought Nomad vaporized some redshirts. But it has been a long time since I saw it, and it is possible they had different clothing. Anyway, here is a detailed list of casualties on the NCC-1701.

Default Red Shirts in society

The term "red shirt" seems to be pretty widely undertood in America.

I can think of two more references off the top of my head.

'South Park' had an episode when the children were on a bus threatend by a monster. A kid in a red shirt (complete with little triangle starfleet ensignia) runs off the bus, only to be imediatly eaten.

In 'Lost', one of the character is about to head into the jungle and comments that he's in trouble since he's wearing a red shirt. He has to explain to Locke why that would be a big deal and Locke just figures that anyone who loses crew members on every mission is a pretty crappy captain.

And the guy commenting on the red shirt dies a few episodes later

Obviously, they replenished their supply of underlings from the same place they replenished their supply of shuttlecraft.

I thought I'd heard somewhere that it was the underlings who were hard at work replenishing the the supply of shuttlecraft... the unreplenishable supply of underlings replenishing the supply of... oh frak, this is starting to sound like a perpetual-motion scam.
