In the subject I quote a Discover Magazine review by Corey S. Powell, "The Core". It's the April 2003 issue, page 76. I'm not sure what his credentials are that he can make that assessment, but I suspect he is a "Bachelor of Liberal Arts". He has obviously been looking at something other than what I have.

He goes on to gush about how good the science is and the quality of the scientic consultant. Oh who really cares?

Question: How do you get a liberal arts graduate off your front porch?

Answer: Pay for the pizza.

Further: Questions asked by a:

Scientist: How does it work?

Engineer: How can I use it?

Liberal Artist: Do you want frys with it?

Oh, shush me for a cad!

Speaking as a liberal arts grad (far eastern history and culture) this would all be real funny if it weren't true.

Gethen, you didn't by any chance do some of your studies in Nova Scotia, did you?

Hey, you do know that Discover does one 'joke article' every April, right?

Nope, not Novia Scotia. Where did that come from?

Oh, well. I knew a Gethen from my college days, and his major was fairly similar to yours.

If you're not him, you're not him. No worries. Just thought I'd ask.

No, I'm not him. I'm her. The name is strictly for posting. But I've gotten e-mail from 2 different people whose real name is the same. Both were also "her."

Oh great!

I just logged onto CNN's science and technology site - and up popped an add for The Core. Sigh. It never ends.

[grins wryly] Yeah, that would be a fairly clear indication, wouldn't it?

(Hey, it could be worse, I could have asked you at this point if you were sure. [chuckles])

Moose, if you had checked out this thread first, you wouldn't have had this problem.

Sorry I'm so long getting back to the discussion. Things have not been going well for me lately.

To all who may have taken offence at my comments about liberal arts majors, they were strictly pointed at the movie reviewer, not at y'all. Though I note that Ms. Gethen seemed to identify to a small extent. No hard feelings please?!

Russ, I'm sorry to hear you have had problems.

I think we liked your jokes, (I did), and I doubt anyone would have been offended.

Mechanic: where the Technical Manual so I can fix it?

End User: You mean its NOT supposed to do that?

Discovers Joke articles aren't always so obvious--so (Usually) they point them out in the May issue...I admit I've fallen for a couple of them (in non-astronomy related subjects ops: ) so don't be to hard un Russ...

I'm technically a liberal arts major. That is what Anthropology is in in my university. I was not offended. I like it. ;-)
