Default Bad Calendar - vernal equinox

Our University of Massachusetts Extension Garden Calendar for 2003 has "vernal equinox" indicated for March 21. All other local sources, including the Old Farmer's Almanac have it as March 20.

The equinox was at 0100 UT March 21 (ref), or 8:00 PM March 20. UMass didn't make the time zone conversion.

This would be merely amusing, except that the UMass calendar also has sunrise and sunset for every day, correct for Amherst MA. We have sent them a note.

We encourage others to correct Bad Calendar publishers. This must be particularly annoying in Hawaii.

Well, I just did a quick check of calendars here. My Tuxedo Cat calendar lists the equinox on the 21st. My Get Fuzzy calendar doesn't list it at all. My About Face calendar lists it on the 20th, which is strange since it is done by a Japanese photographer and there the equinox would be on the 21st! I wonder if I have the US version and they did d separate version for Japan. My 365 Kittens a Year calendar does not list the equinox. My Astronomy calendar is at school and this is spring break so I am not there 8)

So, a split decision here.

Rob

My Michael Moore "Stupid White Men" calendar had it listed on the 20th.
