Default To all of those who have seen it: Season Finale BSG Season 2?

Were you satified or disappointed with the season finale of BSG Season 2? You know it's weird, but I found it kind of disappointing....it lacked something.

Actually, it all seemed a bit silly, when you think about it. I mean, here's humanity; they've been locked away in a rather bland but fairly clean and orderly ship for the last few years. They find a habitable world, and all debark onto the land to start a new Utopia, regardless of the fact that a) it's pretty bloody obvious from the results a year on that they have neither the resources nor the manpower to construct a civilisation and b) it is very probable that the Cylons were, you know, lying a bit when they said they weren't going to chase them anymore. If an unstoppable force of killing machines was bent on the extermination of my race, I'd think twice before backing my fellow humans into a corner, no matter what Al from Quantum Leap says. He is persuasive though, I'll give you that, the big lug.

Anyway, aside from that, here's what I don't get. Humanity has two choices: stay on board the well-armed, easily maneuvred, clean and spartan ship, or go down into the mud with the diseases and the rain and live in a tent city. Gee, which would you pick?

Only Galactia and Pegasus were clean and nice. The rest were crowded and dirty too. I imagine they would feel more in control of their destiny on a planet, even a dirty, rainy one like that.

The cylons only found them because of that one other none dirty, rainy ship getting blown up. Rising Sun was it?

I think the only think it lacked was Baltar getting hung drawn and quartered.

I'll second jt-3d. Although I don't think it was the right choice, I think that choosing to tame a planetside frontier over seemingly endless waiting on over-crowded ships was an understandable choice. The fact that the planet was well-hidden was just gravy. I found it very interesting that Adama & Roslin, stuck to their democratic ideals, for better or for worse. That's why I like this show so much: Because of the grey areas created and debated when moral choices and prudent choices and legal choices don't match-up.

Cloud Nine. Rising Star (the luxury liner from the original series) has been mentioned, but I don't think we've seen it yet.

Banquo, I'm assuming you're in Canada? I caught the last 3 seconds of the season finale on Sunday on Space, but my wife explained most of the plot to me. I've missed so much of this season!

For next season, maybe we could split this into American/Canadian (perhaps Brit, and Aussie as well?) discussions, only due to our different timing schedules? It's a bit frustrating not being able to read the thread, as we've not seen the episodes!

Just a thought for later on

Pete

Pegasus was not blown up in the original series. It got into a big fight with Cylon Base Stars, but the battle moved out of range. This left it open for a return somewhere down the line, if the series hadn't been cancelled.

In the current series, both Battlestars are half manned. Pegasus used to be the stronger of the two, but she got beat-up pretty badly when she walked into that ambush. My bet is that they will consolidate the crews on Galactica and sacrifice Pegasus somehow to get the upper hand on the Cylons.

I liked the finale. It shakes things up well, with many options for resolving some issues. At first, the "one year later" bit threw me, but I like the way they explained it. My favourite parts of the season were the Pegasus arc and the final episodes.

Although we may have had to wait until January for Season 2 to start, I did like the fact that we got the whole season in 20 straight weeks. Looks like we will get Season 3 at the same time as the US, with an October start.

Personally, I think the finale should have ended when Cloud Nine blew up. Then, with the season premiere, we could have jumped to the New Caprica story, and I don't think it would have been quite as jarring to me.

As it stands, it felt like the drama kind of fell out in the last half-hour. It certainly gave the series an interesting new direction... but, I feel the timing was off.

It was a very strange turn, but I'm waiting to see what they do with it.

I'm personally hoping that if they ditch one of the Battlestars, they ditch the older Galactica, but rename the Pegasus. It's the bigger, badder ship and I don't want to see it gone.
