Should be OK, it's an 'Open University' series.

I think they should have left the objects in the oven instead of taking them out first to make a fair test...

It was pretty good.

The Thomas Crown Affair won the award for its camera whiteout sequence that wouldn't have worked.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves came second for its catapult sequence that may have given a feasible catapult, but the trajectory was dodgy.
The Score came last for its safe blowing sequence that accurately depicted that filling the safe with water would increase the likelihood of the explosives inside blowing the door off.

I also think they didn't necessarily guarantee that the method of heating in their final test was the same. I think in the movie, the heating was ambient once the air conditioning had been disabled, whereas their test had the heating coming from very specific sources.

Although their original point was that they had to degrade the camera quite a bit to come near duplicating the scene...just shows how sensitive IR camers are. The ones used for astronomy are cooled by liquid nitrogen to allow them to detect even fainter IR sources (IIRC).

Generally a pretty good programme, I thought - fortunately I missed the first half, as I haven't seen The Score yet.

Default Web site

I just learned about this series from a UK friend. They have some material on the web site at
http://www.open2.net/science/hollywood_science/
but I do hope this series makes it to the US on BBC America or Discovery or something like that. Looks like just the sort of thing that fans of this site would enjoy.

They'd have several seasons worth of material for this show if they decided to tackle MacGuyver.
