Default "Re-imagined" Star Trek edits

One thing that hasn't changed with these "re-imagined" episodes is the slice and dice editing required to "fit" the episode and the commercials into the 1 hour time slot.

In Mirror Mirror, they completely cut out the bridge discussion at the end of the episode ("I always knew Spock was a pirate at heart"...etc). The way it plays now, Spock says "welcome home, Captain", then the scene switches to Kirk noticing the "new" LT. on the bridge...

The "brand new" Enterprise FX are nice, but (IMO) they don't make up for the fact that (to show in the time alloted) they are still "cutting up" the episodes.

I'm wonder if that's how they will be released to DVD??

I was going to post this to an existing thread, but felt it would be too off topic.

ah-HA! I'm not loosing it. I could have sworn that that Episode had a discussion at the end about how it was easier for the Good crew to pass for evil than it was for the Evil crew to behave, but I saw this one Sunday morning, and that bit was gone. Since I've only ever seen TOS in syndication, It never occurred to me that they cut it more, to remove that part.

The episodes are being remastered and CGI'd in their entirety.

The decision of whether to broadcast the entire episode (with, IIRC, about six-eight minutes of commercial time per episode) or a sliced-and-diced version (12-15 minutes of commercial time) is up to the local station.

AFAIK there's been no official decision made about releasing the remastered episodes on DVD, but if they do it'll almost certainly be the full-length versions.

That's ridiculous. The whole show is essentially a set-up for that punch line! Must be like watching Blazing Saddles on AMC. No beans, no German journeys, no fun.

Majel should sue! Or Sue should name her son...well, you get the idea! That's really pathetic!

Glad to have TOS recorded as originally broadcast way back when.

I'm just about ready to stop watching them for because of the cuts. I was so disgusted with the SciFi channels chop up of the original episodes I stopped watching them.

The SciFi channel is one of the biggest disappointments of my adult life

Hey! That says that George "Sulu" Takei is going to be on "Heroes" as Hiro's father! Cool!

Oh that rocks. He was on a episode of Psych as himself not long ago too. One of the conventions the ex took me to had him as the guest. He actually seems to be a pretty good guy all around.

(Not that it actually signifies, of course; my best friend's mother didn't come to terms with her own lesbianism until after my friend was born.)

Astonishing as it may seem, actors often portray someone with personality traits different from their own. This behavior is commonly referred to as acting.

Yes, I know. It was a joke, and kind of a bad one. I don't think Tom Hanks is gay because he played a gay character once; I don't think Sir Ian McKellan is straight because he's played straight characters. (Magneto's straight, right?)

Brava, Gillianren! At least one person got the joke! Not surprised it was you.

I got it too, but I did have to think about it for a second. It was a choice to not acknowledge it.

Oh, and as for Magneto... Watch the way he behaves in X2, on the plane, when he talks to Rogue about her hair. His mannerisms and body language as he talks with Mystique are a tad less than masculine. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

Doesn't he have a couple of kids in the comics? (Yeah, I know. Not that it changes anything, as I said earlier. But I could swear he's intended to be straight, just a little affected in mannerism sometimes.)

No clue about the comics. I've never actually read any of them. I don't recall anything from the cartoons about kids, but then I didn't see them all, and there is no way to be sure they were canon anyway. I'll ask the geeks, but it may take a few days.. pfft, night sleepers. I'm sure he was stright in the comics though. I can't think of any of the Marvel world that were obviously gay. Also, given the time the character was created and his role in the Marvel universe, I'd be very surprised if that was the case. There is a decades long running joke about Batman though...

I was just commenting on the performance in that second film. In the first one he was very much a menace, but in many parts of the second, he was more... I don't know... femme I guess. Still a menace, but more catty about some things. Actually, I think he's been played very well so far. Even in the third one, as cluttered and unfocused as it was, he was still true to form. Right down to his treatment of Mystique.

The geeks are up. Magneto was married and has had at least 3 kids. Should you follow the link, ignore Xcalibeer, everyone else does. Also, mild language warning relating to donkeys.

Default Magneto and Rouge

Also, Magneto and Rouge were very close- although nothing came of it because of the nature of Rouge's mutation.

"Rogue." But, at least in Age of Apocalypse (the only place I remember them being close), he was immune to her powers. (This was the thing that bothered me most about the first movie, in fact.) Heck, they had a kid together! The kid, sadly, was not immune to them.

Ahem, yes "Rogue".

Well, I know in the mainline continuity (specifically in the Fatal Attractions storyline), Rogue tries to "kiss some sense" into Magneto and while she is able to drain quite a bit of power from him, he retains the vast majority of his strength and is able to knock her back without any permanent ill effects.

Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch I knew about, the third one's news to me.

I agree. I mentally added a "stupid ape" comment to Eccelston's chewing out of Peter in the "previously" bit at the beginning. It just happened automatically, and seemed to fit so well.

RE OP
Unfortunately, commercial time is increasing across the board. Time was when an hour show was 50 minutes total; now it's more like 45 minutes....

Down to 40, maybe even less. A lot of my TV viewing is off the VCR. FF through the commercials and I can watch an hour show in 40. And that's even picking up a slight bit of the beginning and tail end of the commercial break.

Remember when Charlie Brown Christmas was a half hour? Now it's an hour show because it has been chopped (about 10% of it) to the point that they couldn't show it any more.
