Default BSG and the nova (rampant speculation thread)

So... has anyone tried to figure out if the nova mentioned in the most recent BSG episode has any correlation to something we've already observed? Or is this just being written off as hollywood TV?

it would be amusing if it were Tycho's Nova (BSG arriving sometime in the 1600s) or a recurring nova.

Alternatively, does anyone know of a type 1A supernova which erupted about 4000 years ago (i believe when the colonists were on their way out). I believe they mention that the SN was something like 11,000 or 13,000 LY away. maybe we can get a sens of scale here.
