Yes, in Book of Job God basically makes a bet with Satan. But there is a big difference between betting one man plus his family, and betting the entire world.

The artifact based on bad mythology is always found at the exact time of the heavenly event, based on bad astronomy, that makes it Very Dangerous.
Also, heroes have a "good luck" power- any scientists they visit will make a remarkable discovery while the hero is around.

If they didn't, they'd never survive the first five minutes of the film.

In a generic fantasy setting that’s not a bad premise – if you accept supernatural, why not accept that something supernatural can end the world? Why would God do that?

Always hated that sort of thing.
It's rather complicated and perfectly understood by those raised with the Christian Bible. Unfortunately, Hollywood tends to garble exactly what John's Revelation is talking about.

According to the Revelations, there will be a period of tribulations as the Anti-Christ takes over the world and rules it for a period of time. There is a series of plagues and signs that foreshadow the End of World before God steps in and creates his ultimate paradise.

The reasoning behind thses Hollywood stories is that it is Satan that will determine the beginning of the tribulations and not God.

Cedes to Satan, or uses Satan to punish/try mankind (like in the Book of Job)? Anyway, the conversation is getting dangerously religious.

Single people are physically incapable of having a wholly professional relationship with a member of the opposite sex.

Every heroine that I admired at nine, no matter how tough they were, whether it was Padme Amidala or Princess Fiona, still ended up needing to be rescued by, and falling for, the hero.

Right, Damsels in Distress haven't disappeared, they just complain loudly or punch out some minions before getting captured.

I showed my brother a comic I had drawn recently. The premise is that, in the Marvel Universe, Tony Stark has joined with Virgin Galactic, but these evil spies attack, and Iron Man has to save the day. I had a really great scene where one of the spies tries to catch Rutan, but he steals the guy's blaster and sticks up the spy, saying "Never mess with a pilot." At the end, I asked my brother if he liked the real-life characters.
"Well, I didn't like how you had Burt Rutan act."
"Why?"
"Because the regular people aren't supposed to fight back. They're supposed to scream and sit there until the superheroes save them. I didn't come to see the ordinary people!"
I've been wondering about that ever since. Thoughts?

There are a few exceptions. The majority either fall into the Horror/Slasher formula (virgin survives, all others die) or the Action/Adventure formula (girl/MacGuffin captured, hero man wades through minions/goons to or in Boss fortress, Boss fight occurs, hero rescues girl/Macguffin.)

I didn't watch that when I was nine. Too scary. (That's still why I haven't watched it.)

How can I "remember" what I didn't know? Your post had no age listed for your brother.
