Yes, all heroes can pilot small aircraft, including helicopters.

Just because we're all underachievers, it doesn't mean that everyone has to be. Some people really enjoy their hobbies, and find another outlet for them.

the plot of pretty much any rom-com gets on my nerves.
i don't mind a bit of romance - hey. i'm just a much a fan of Pride & Prejudice or Jane Eyre as the next person - but the conveyor belt outpouring of mediocre, predictable romcoms gets on my nerves. it wouldn't be so bad if my closest friend is my exact opposite - will only watch romcoms.

In a world where superheroes are real, people will still tell the kid who reads their comics like crazy that they aren't.

Aliens are smart enough to build starships, but somehow they forgot to invest fuses, so one spark in the electrical system and half the ship explodes.

I had a very strange dream last night involving living pleisiosaurs, the Olympic Games, and the Men in Black, but what somebody in the dream said is definetly a cliche:
"All rich people with foreign accents want to rule the world at some point."

The evil villain so often has a deformity or genetic abnormality--e.g. albino, robot hands, etc.

I just saw "The Fountain" on DVD. It has a Spanish Inquisitor who is played by the same guy who played a Spartan councilman and friend of the king and queen in "300". In both movies, he wears the same unusual style of facial hair, but in "The Fountain", they seem to have done something with makeup to make his skin look unhealthy, and he repeatedly twitches a part of his face.

When a spaceship explodes it completely vapourises.

For that matter, shining a little laser light on a space craft makes it explode. I wouldn't fly in one of those bombs!

At least that cliche has changed in the last couple millenia. It used to be the protagonist with the deformity.

And if they don't appear to have a deformity at first, they'll be disguised and pull it off at the last minute. Heck, I even used that cliche in a story. The bad guy had been mutated in an accident and he wore sunglasses to hide the fact that he had eyes like a snake.

I wrote a short story in high school (not publishing quality, but I'm fond of it all the same) where I played with the 'mutilated villain' cliché (among several others) to lead the reader to the conclusion that the 'butler did it'. Then I harked off 3/4s of my class (I actually got half-serious death threats from some of the girls) by throwing doubt on the whole thing with the very last line.

In retrospect, it may have been one of my first proto-skeptical acts. I led the reader to a (very) specious conclusion based entirely on (reasonable sounding) logical fallacy and (natural) conjecture, then yanked the rug out from under the entire story. I left them holding a huge lantern shining the fact that they made (and overturned) their conclusion(s) based on what turned out to be an aggressive lack of evidence.

You know, I think I'm going to try and track it down, and get it somewhere within my backup space. I've lost too many halfway decent stories to laziness.
