I dunno, there's a worse insult from the distaff side. Stories in which a strong woman is the star, and to make her "believable and human" they introduce a love interest at some point -- who is almost invariably the most bland, colorless, helpless, sensitive new-age guy possible, and an insult to human beings of any gender or preference. This trope goes all the way back to Nancy Drew (what DID she see in him, anyhow?).

I was reminded, Kai, by some commentary on YouTube of a "making of" for the television mini-series V. How often does television ever give us a hero like Julie, who is strong-willed, brave, does a difficult job because no-one else will, and is a scientist to boot -- and can do all this without "help" from that loose cannon, Mike Donovan?

I'm actually okay with the leads going off hand in hand. What bugs me more -- and it's as prevalent in a limited series or anime as it is in musical theater -- is that Every Single Couple ends up paired off by the end of the thing. Even the comic relief guy or gal. Heck, some times, even the villians!

Been a long time since I saw that one. Hmm, may be time for a revisit.

But they do all in love.

How about Lost in Translation?

The only name that comes to mind is Atomic Betty. Her best friend was in love with her, but she never knew it and didn't have any boyfriends. Probably the cartoon heroine most like me, actually.

Speaking of V, isn't it odd how despite the fact that they considered us food some of them still managed to fall for and make love with humans?

They were obviously a very perverse, decadent, and depraved species.

If I haven't added this already: pointless, extended swordfights meant only to show off stunts and F/X rather than to advance the plot in any way. Double threat for movies set in universes with abundant firearms.

Everyone in the Military unit, has a different weapon requiring different ammunition. Ther eis a reason that weapons are standard and use the same ammunition. Like in WW2 there was a reason the Sten Gun used by Paras and Commandos could fire the standard German 9mm round used in their Pistols and SMGs.

I was watching Star Trek and I noticed that no matter (pun intended) what the subject is doing when transported sitting, laying down and sometimes walking, the subject is always standing straight and tall with their arms beside them at parade stand.

Tintin in Tibet somewhat subverted the "the world must never know" cliche. Tintin did photograph the Yeti, but the camera was lost. In the end, he decides that it's better that way, but if he hadn't lost the camera, it might have gone differently.

This was almost always the case with TOS. Occasionally, they did have someone beamed in a crouching position. They did transporting a little more realistically in subsequent series.
