I'm still waiting for the last Christmas special, not to mention the latest series. Sometimes this really seems like the far end of the earth

And Catherine Tate (who was in the last Christmas special) will be the Doctor's Companion for the first half of the next series.

I believe that's incorrect. She only appears in the Christmas special. The new companion is Freema Agyeman, who plays Martha

When I say "next series", I mean the one that filming hasn't started on yet, not the one that starts showing here on Friday. From the latter perspective, you are correct.

Well they have brought back the character of The Master in the recent series (looking of course very different from the original.

So perhaps they have plans to bring back another old character - The Rani

Perhaps this is role they have in mind for Kylie.

I think Catherine Tate's going to be great, I watched the Christmas Special again last night to remind myself what she was like and thought she was awesome. The dynamic between the Doctor and Donna is going to be great, especially if she's yelling at him and nagging him half the time . I thought she was in for all of Season 4, with Freema showing up again in the second half?

Yes, I believe that's the plan. By the way, Captain Swoop, I think Catherine Tate is great (but a little repetitive when left to her own devices). My favourite character of hers is the gran.... "WHAT a (deleted) liberty!"

True.

Shows like little Britain and Catherine Tate, remind me of that experiement with the rats who got their pleasure centres electrically stimulated when they pressed a button. They lost interest in everything else, and just kept pressing and pressing.

I was a more than a little worried when the whole Catherine Tate story broke , but on re-watching the Xmas story, "The Runaway Bride" again last week , I began to have second thoughts .

First the whole TARDIS "Its bigger on the inside" culture shock has been taken care of, and since that normally takes an episode to work out , then we're already ahead.

Second , after the events of "bride" have run their course , Tate's character Donna becomes a lot more controlled , and far less grating , her comment about needing some to stop him in response to the Dr's actions provides an interesting take on a what a companion should be doing ,

third , there's precious little chance of Donna wandering round the TARDIS casting lingering looks in the Dr's direction , rather as Martha and Rose did , after all in "bride" the Dr gets slapped by Donna , Twice! so that's a relief

Fourth Donna's "in you face" attitude might make for some interesting encounters - I can certainly see her swinging punches at aliens that irritated her - anyone for punching out Davros ... !

In addition - we do get Martha back later in the 4th series , after her stint on "Torchwood" - oh and anyone want to lay bets on how James "Spike" Masters get on in the Torchwood hub ......

I happened to just finish watching the Third Season (I have my sources) and the middle is bad, really bad, and then very suddenly picks up again with some of the best episodes ever filmed. I mean ever. Blink was awesome; it was written by Stephen Moffat who wrote The Lonely Child (as well as the comedy series Coupling which was amazingly well-written). Mrs. BA showed Blink to some people who knew nothing about the show and they loved it.

Well Lonely Child was simply outstanding, still puts the hairs up on the back of my neck thinking about it - So I will be looking forward to Blink
