Default Best Episode of Star Trek (original series):Round 1j

The episodes are being presented in order of numbering. The airdates are in a slightly different order.

Episode Title: 'The Gamesters of Triskelion'
Synopsis: "Kirk, Uhura, and Chekov are dragged hundreds of light years away by the gambling leaders of the planet Triskelion, who force aliens to participate in combat to the death for their amusement. Kirk makes a bet with the aliens to win the freedom of all the thralls."

Episode Title: 'Obsession'
Synopsis: "Kirk meets up with a gaseous being that feeds on human blood cells, which he failed to destroy during an encounter years earlier, costing the life of his captain. Now, with that captain's son on the Enterprise, he becomes obsessed with the creature's destruction."

Episode Title: 'The Immunity Syndrome'
Synopsis: "When a huge single-celled alien saps the energy out of an entire solar system, the Enterprise must find a way to stop the creature's progress and prevent it from reproducing."

Episode Title: 'A Piece of the Action'
Synopsis: "A century ago, a Starfleet vessel left a book about Chicago mobs on a highly imitative planet. When the Enterprise checks up on the planet's development, they find a planet-wide gang war in progress and become caught in the middle."

Episode Title: 'By Any Other Name'
Synopsis: "The ship is taken over by a group of beings from the Andromeda Galaxy who have assumed human form in order to take the ship back to their own galaxy. Kirk and his crew devise ways to use their new sensual feelings against them."

200 quatloos for A Piece of the Action!

Trivia: Where else was Scotty's line ("It's green") from By Any Other Name used?

Where's "The Omega Glory"? Where's "Doomsday Machine" (my fav). Can't imagine anyone would pick "the Immunity Syndrome."

Doomsday was a couple of polls back. Omega hasn't come up yet on the list. That was in season 3, wasn't it?

I picked Obsession and By Any Other Name. Obsession was among the best of the 'Strange Space-borne Creature' stories. 'Name' was an interesting take on the 'Powerful Aliens that Take Over the Ship' line.

A comment by Data in the TNG episode "Relics." (By the way, I remembered the joke, but had to look up the episode title.)

"A Piece of the Action" is one of my favorites. Very funny.

Sorry I missed the old poll. TOG was either late season 2, or early season 3. "Piece of the Action" is my fav on the list. Love seeing Mel from Mel's' diner as a gangsta. Anyone remember his name, it was like all vowels.

Anyone see the South Park parody on "Triskellion" with the home-schooled girl? I recognized the music first, but couldn't place it until the dialog between Kyle and the girl became an obvious homage to Trek.

And the winner is Van Rijn!

With Data looking at the bottle he is about to serve Scotty.

It won an award for special effects, and I quite liked it. Not the best episode, but certainly no Turnabout Intruder.

Vic Tayback. Not quite all vowels.
